I don’t get the Itauma hype. I won’t be shocked if he becomes champ and dominates 5 years from now since the younger HW crop seen terrible (though I’m sure there are some talented unknown guys lurking out there. After Usyk, AJ (already shot), Fury, Wilder (shot) and Dubois retire, the throne is really for the taking. I do think he smashed Whyte though. Whyte has never been good.
I can see how you make this comparison, they were similarly hyped as well. And we saw what happened to Haye when he stepped up against Thompson, what if we see a repeat of that fight with Whyte vs Itauma? So Itauma has all the early advantage, but can't get Whyte out of there and swings himself out. And then Whyte comes on and ends it.
I think there is some logic in chucking him in the deep end early. He's explosive in a way we potentially haven't seen since Tyson, Tyson was on the decline at age 24. If the concern is Moses will struggle to move from demolition jobs to discipline boxing then it's not crazy to try and strike while the iron is hot. Usyk is all wrong for him though.
Yeah its not that strong for elite athletes his size and age, but for a boxer it is. It seems like boxing is still a bit old school in their s&c compared to a lot of other sports.
