Based on Forest's fights with Mayorga i would be confident that Cuevas could bring agression with power. Vernon didn't handle it as well as he couldve. He had the tools but Pipino i think was much better than Mayorga. I'd have to lean towards Cuevas by mid round stoppage.
It is pretty simple. Forrest fought with a very wide stance so he couldn't move when Mayorga pressed him. The only move he could make was straight back, to get his feet into position where he could move. And then Mayorga was on top of him.
In one hand, Forrest beat the likes of prime Mosley, Quartey, Piccirillo, prime Sergio Mora and Baldomir In the other, he lost to Mayorga. I guess i'd take the better, more refined, more skilled, more mechanical, more technical, more experienced and harder puncher fighter than Mayorga, Pipino Cuevas
Mayorga won belts at 154 and beat Vargas at 168. Cuevas failed horribly against Hearns, who had the same dimensions as Forrest, and fell apart above 147. I don't see why Cuevas would win if Mosley didnt.
This is at 147 though. Cuevas was a champion quite a bit longer than Mayorga. Ricardo Beat Vargas at 168? Your better than this.
That was Vargas last fight, after 2 stoppage losses to Mosley and going up that division for the first time Forrest did not have the same dimensions as Hearns, Hearns was bigger, taller, stronger and had a longer reach I agree Pipino wasn't any good at the higher weight classes however that doesn't mean he was a worse fighter than ****ing Ricardo Mayorga, if you put Mayorga in a time chamber and told him to fight against Pipino's championship opposition he wouldn't even have made 2 title defenses, even if he was at peak condition at all times.
That was an interesting fight. I thought Forest was outscoring Quartey. Jim Lampley and HBO appeared to gaslight the viewing audience into thinking it was all Ike.
Yes but the difference is Forrest didn't have the power or finishing abilties that Hearns possessed. Forrest had 1 stoppage in his whole career in world title fights that says it all.
You're writing as if it makes sense to take the worst moment of a fighter's career and use that to define how they'd do against lesser fighters. And Forrest barely even lost the rematch.
