This fight was the perfect encapsulation of why Tank is a 30 year old prospect who refuses to take on tough challenges. Tank's style relies on finding openings to land a big bomb. Tank has never shown the ability to consistently win rounds in a fight. He'll drop round after round to guys like Rolly friggin' Romero. So the better your competition the less mistakes they're going to make and the less likely it is you find your big KO shot. So Tank needs scrubs to fight because he actually isn't a very good all-around boxer. He's quite good at the one thing he does (against **** poor competition), but the rest of his game is lacking. Dude has some of the worst punch output in sport as a Lightweight. That's flat out embarrassing. I like Roach and he's a decent boxer, but there's about four or five guys I'd pick to beat him at Super Feather/Lightweight. He boxed smartly, didn't overextend like an idiot, and didn't let the moment get to him. And Davis had no clue what to do with him. That's why he panicked, took a knee, and stuck his head out of the ring.
Quite the contrary, his punch output is his only issue, Tank can do literally anything else in the ring, he is very versatile. Not many can do what Roach did there.
The thing about the fight was Tank landed those same shots that knocked his previous opponents unconscious. Roach just ate them and kept it pushing. It was almost similar to when Tyson dropped Buster Douglas with his signature uppercut. You knew he wasn’t winning that when Douglas beat the count.
I didn't keep a scorecard watching it live, and being as generous as I could possibly be I thought 6-6 was best case scenario for Davis. But I thought Roach clearly did enough to win, especially if the knockdown had been called.
Tank had all the skills and power to be a great fighter but his career fizzled out he was happy with mediocrity and now he has plateaued. He is now only rated by his loyal fan boys but even they know he has ducked serious competition for years.
Let this sink in, aside from durable journeyman German Meraz in a 6 rounder. Only 2 of Tank Davis' matches have gone the distance, and he lost both of them and needed crooked judges to bail him out. But... but... but... that what he does, he loses rounds, setting his opponents up, waiting to walk someone onto a shot! Yeah... uh huh!
Setting opponents up is a skill. I know you don’t like him which is your prerogative like his detractors but you all watch him because he puts bums on seats and knocks mother****ers out. You keep picking against him and all he does is win. He will keep winning. People call him and out but when the moment comes the lose their pen, retire or choose to go another route.
