Ike would have a better chance against Young (and I'm a huge Young fan) than nearly anyone, along with Joe Frazier, IMO, due to the fact that he was somewhat of volume puncher ala his fight with Tua, rather than Young's usual foil of big punching slugger types.
Ike ,too much incessant pressure ,totally wrong style for Young to handle . Constant ,in your face offence, with the assurance that what comes back is not going to blow your roof off, results in Ike getting the stoppage, imo
Depends. Does Young let his hands go in mythical match-ups or just survive and counter sporadically, like he did in real life?
Good and imaginitive match up,KOTF. Ibeabuchi never reached his full potential, due to out of the ring problems, shall we say. I'd still back Jimmy to win this one. By a four/five round margin.
I've rethought my opinion since 2009, Young wins a decision...it would take Frazierlike production and resolve to keep jimmy from dipping into his great bag of tricks....and Ike wasn't Frazierlike.. Young by 15 round decision.
IKE KO. Young could out box slower punchers with stamina issues. Ike was never slow, and was very active.
This is actually a match the overrated Ike could win. He has the right style, the stamina, power, and high work rate to force Young to either engage or hide in his shell. I think Young has his moments with some good counters and responsible defense impressing the judges for a few rounds, but ultimately Ike's pace and aggression makes Young too wary and passive letting the scorecard slip through his fingers. Ike takes it 7 rounds to 5.
I like Ike (geddit?). Young didn’t appear to have great output - his game was to simply ensure his opponent landed less than he did. Before entertaining a KO, Ike, at the very least, simply outworks Jimmy - but in the process of doing so, there’s a decent chance that it leads to later round stoppage/KO of Young. If it’s a clear decision win for Ike, Young will still claim, by default, that he was robbed.
