In an instant I’d hop into his shoes for a round trip, JD which would be refreshing today was a very modest man and I think he knew he wasn’t as good as America wanted to believe he was, he said the newspapers made him great and he was right to be a self skeptic based on what I’ve seen… but I wish we could see PRIME Dempsey, there are many bouts of his we don’t have access to and he ruined himself as a fighter in his own words following Doc’s orders but what it did was basically solidify him as the “Babe Ruth” of boxing “leave them wanting more” etc.

When I read that he and Barbara Stanwyck spent a lot of time together, it really changed the way I looked at The Big Valley.

Yes, because that's the criteria people are looking for when assessing greatness.

In terms of capturing the attention of the casual fan base, Hamed was definitely a legend. His athleticism, power, and showboating were ridiculous and entertaining. His resume? Not so much, we're in agreement there.

I don’t know what “The Big Valley” is but Barbara ain’t a catch IMO the olden days are no match for the modern enhanced woman of today with there makeups, skin care routines, surgery’s and the 10-30lbs of functional curves in todays division.

It was an old cowboy tv series where she is the matriarch of a family and their extensive holdings. Of course the show came out 30 odd years after her fling with Dempsey.

Wash your mouth out with soap.

If Richard isn’t a legend, no one else can possibly be afforded the title.

    Next I’ll be reading that Ingo isn’t a legend…:duh

The Holyfield trilogy carries him. Much like Pryor with the Arguello fight.

    Dial “D” for Dempsey.

As for Big Valley - “Nick, Heath, Jarrod…there’s a fire in the barn!” :D

    Canelo Alvarez.
He's good fighter. He's lost 2x officially but has a few too many questionable to downright bad decisions all went his way. You can make a decent case he has 5 losses.
With his recent ducking of David Benevides. Whoever his manager is deserves the title of legend.

To be fair I have never heard anyone refer to him as a legend. A very few have called him an ATG, but I have never actually heard the word legend associated with him.
