I was watching with tears in my eyes when Louis landed 20+ punches on Carnera’s face, such skill, such grace!

That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. The correct definition of a jab merchant is somebody who has a great jab and uses it to set up the rest of their offense. Now you have been educated.

In actual fact Golovkin landed power punches and jabs in almost equal measure. How many jabs did Louis throw vs Marciano?

I mean ending the nonsense that you are typing and subjecting us to it.

I'd agree that Louis' jab wasn't as good as Golovkin's.

Ancient? I thought that he was 37? Why, GGG gets **** for having tough fights when he was 36. I guess the concept of "ancient" is also as malleable as the definition of "jab merchant" in these parts.

And yet here you are clanging on about Golovkin's rematch with Canelo when he too was an old fighter

Wow, so you agree, as does your illustrious co-poster MarkusFlorez, that size matters in boxing? Have I got that right?

Quite possible, if Miller chokes on him while he is trying to eat him as a snack.

If one watches Louis and Canelo in the ring and cannot see a vast difference in skills, then I really don't know what to say about that.

It's similar to when people automatically favor larger, more modern fighters over greats of the past eras. I feel as if the bottom line is they basically are not watching the greats very carefully and fairly, without biases. The difference in level is staggering to me. Almost all of the top heavyweights today give me serious tough man competitor vibes.

As far as Foreman goes, to suggest that he wasn't one of the strongest heavyweights that ever lived is a joke. George couldn't backup Sonny Liston when they sparred but I'm sure it would have been different if he were prime. Same with O'Halloran.

The "correct" definition for a term I made.

    Interesting.

Almost everyone and their mom uses a jab to "set up their offense". This is like saying someone is a waist merchant because they dip their hips to set up body shots.

I already addressed Louis vs Marciano, it was just as dumb and irrelevant the first time you brought it up.

Nice try, you clearly meant to type "send" kiddo.

Which has **** all to do with the fact you can't say Louis heavily relies on his jab, which is why you attempted to change the subject with a snarky response like a 15 year old.

Do I really need to explain that not all fighters accumulate wear and tear at the same rate...?

He didn't have remotely as much wear and tear as Louis. Less fights, less exhibitions, sparring, etc. Canelo was one of the first truly elite opponents he faced, Louis was demolishing contenders for over half a decade.

What does Markus have to do with me? We're not joined at the hip. Do you disagree that it's usually more difficult to KO a heavyweight than a middleweight, yes or no?

There are posters on this site who honestly believe Derrick Chisora would've replicated Louis' 25 title defenses and would easily dominate any era before the 70's.

Some people have such incredibly ingrained preconceived notions about sports evolution that they see what they want to see and are blind to any technical skills older athletes have no matter how you try to explain things. Canelo is good, but he's not as good as Louis and it's got nothing to do with nostalgia bias, even my dad wasn't alive when Louis was competing lol. Not everything in sports progresses linearly in terms of the quality of the competitors.

What kind of silly argument is this?

People like Jones and Leonard got away with dropping their hands. They were 3x more skilled than Canelo and GGG and they fought in earlier eras than them.

Ah, see, I knew you 'made it up'. That's why I posted

"Show me the definition. Feels to me that you are pulling sheet out your ass."

I like the way you suck your panties up your crack in indignation at somebody using your own imaginary definition to lable Louis with, because it was 'used wrong' As though people need to be able to read your mind :eusa_doh:You are truly 'special'.

I guess you agree that Louis is a jab merchant even by your 'definition' then. OK.

    JAB MERCHANT IN THE HOUSE:

    This content is protected

You need to count how many jabs Louis throws in comparison to his other punches. While you are at it, try to make reference to his excellent defence where he eats punches to the face like Homer Simpson eats pretzels at the bar. I used to think his chin was cardboard but clearly its not judging by all the punches to the schnozz he ate without complaint. THIS is the guy who is more skilful than GGG? don't make me laugh. At least that fight was saved by Brion who tried to force exchanges.

The "bum of the month" club really put some wear and tear on Joe I guess. In "Glass Cobra World" the 350 amateur bouts Golovkin had don't count, I suppose. I guess Golovkin never sparred or trained in his career either. Only Louis.

I think the relative sizes of the fighters influences how the bout goes. Louis had something like 20lbs on Brion ... if the size disparity had been reversed I think Joe would have been eating canvas. Louis had the luxury of being the bigger man in most of his fights. Golovkin was fighting same-sized or bigger opponents.

*10lbs on Brion, just looked it up. OK, more or less the same I guess.

Me giving you my definition of a jab merchant twice in plain English is the complete opposite of me expecting you to "read my mind".

Louis fought all 69 of his opponents the exact same way he did against Marciano?

    Rhetorical question.

You are so hell bent on being "right" that you will double down with idiotic takes and sarcasm. Some of us mentally developed past 9th grade, strange you never did.

I could easily dismiss this since you're once again using a past his prime Louis, but I'll humor you for the last time.

First of all, Brion is a national champ, not some scrub, and he was over a decade younger. Louis was well past his prime.

Second, I watched the first round and tallied his punch stats:

    Jabs: 14 thrown, 8 landed
Left hook: 6 thrown, 4 landed
Right cross: 3 thrown, 1 landed
    Uppercuts: 4 thrown, 2 landed
Body shots: 5 thrown, 1 landed
    Combinations: 2 thrown, 0 landed.

These stats do not scream "jab merchant who heavily relies on jabs and doesn't throw much else in the round". Louis literally attempted every punch in the book in the first round.

Furthermore, he displayed a good defense able to pick off shots with parties, shoulder rolls, blocks, etc and didn't get lit up with big punches. He also displayed much better lateral movement than cement shoes Golovkin and decent guard manipulation.

Do you want to try picking a fight when Louis WASN'T Literally in his last year as a pro when he was gunshy and shopworn...? I mean by your logic, we can absolutely use the Wladmir of the Fury fight as proof Wladmir couldn't open up and had an abysmal punch output.

See, this is more of your 9th grade immaturity. You are putting words in my mouth. We both know Golovkin sparred. You know that I know this and that's not what I said, and you know I'll call you out for yet another idiotic derailing. So...why do it? Do you just need attention that bad? Daddy wasn't around enough?

4 round amateur fights aren't going to cause as much wear and tear as brutal professional bouts where someone is trying to tear your head off. While Golovkin was fighting amateurs, Louis was already duking it out with ex champions like Baer and Sharkey. To deny this exempts you from being taken seriously in any capacity in a serious boxing discussion.

This falls flat because Louis knocked out huge men like Buddy Baer who was 4 inches taller, 40 lbs heavier, and has a 91% KO ratio. Louis had a field day KOing large hard hitting men, so IDK where you're getting the notion he'd have gotten KOd by Brion if Brion was heavier.

By the way, Galento was also significantly heavier than Louis and hit like a truck, Louis got off the floor to KO him.
