If I remember correctly, Roberto was ahead in all the judges' scorecards by the thirteenth round. But Marvin picked up the pace to edge out the last two.
But Hagler would not of been the legend he is if Duran beat him. He would be thought of as a good fighter but not a great fighter if he lost to a former lightweight. Also he would not of had the fight against Hearns if Duran beat him
Yehh I know I'm just saying that it was a close and competitive fight, and it doesn't really diminish Haggler's greatness. It just shows how Roberto was truly one of the best that ever stepped foot in the ring, considering how he went the full fifteen with the Marvelous One.
If Lennox didn't get robbed of a victory in tha first Holyfield encountwr would even there be a need for a 2nd meeting after such a dominant win? Of course, it would still be seen as a question mark since they met when Evan wasn't in his prime but such an unexpected, competitive rematch really raised Evander rating despite being another losing effort.
Whitaker was robbed vs DelaHoya. Pernell got into outstanding condition and his reflexes were still sharp. Oscar couldn't hit him. Pernell wasn't burning up the canvas offensively but he landed what clean shot there were. It's was an ugly fight but I don't see how an alltime great champion loses his title without being hit much. A draw would have been reasonable. The scorecards were a joke. Looked like the buisness of boxing took over. The $ was with Oscar and they had to move forward.
Agreed. And the fact that Muhammad had deteriorated more than Ken did since their second fight three years previously would have been a big factor.
