Wlad and/or Usyk are maybe considered as top tens by about half of fans, at most.
Lewis is considered top ten by almost everybody.
There’s never been another 30 years with such dearth of heavyweight talent.

 

For “greatness” sake I suppose it matters and having a high number of “ranked opposition” is important but my friend that’s a valid criticism, it’s quite subjective H2H evaluations are harder then numbers so I get why folks prefer looking at it in a more sports stat way mostly for a historic list.

 

Repeating a talking point doesn't make it true and anyone who doesn't have Wlad in their top ten while having Holmes and Louis is being really inconsistant

 

Oh God just wait “He didn’t fight his own brother” - it’s a very unique circumstance where the number 1 and 2 guy were siblings lol I don’t hold it against Charles for not wining the 175lbs title… context! - it’s like Holmes with a couple guys, public didn’t really care at the time.

The Op has done the hard work for Louis, not that he had to.
Holmes dominated his era and never lost until he was what, 36? He only ever lost by ko to Tyson when he was pushing 40.

Wlad was ko’d multiple times in his prime by second tier fringe contenders…

 

Nah, it’s just that neither of them were that good.
Wlad is not even better than his own brother.
He was good, the fact he’s held in such high esteem is bizarre

 

He reigned forever and was the number one heavyweight in the world for a long time… what is your issue with Ol Wlad? “Not any good” id like to hear why? I don’t mind a bit of Wlad bashing myself but it doesn’t seem fair in this instance.

 

If I’m not mistaken, Louis is also the only champion who knocked out three former (undisputed) heavyweight champs on his way to the title. Amazing record overall.

 

Well how do we rate fighters mostly by numbers or by mostly by the eye test?

To me there is no anonymous GOAT I think you can only be the best of your respective era and weight class at a given point in time which Joe Louis was.

 

Now that does sound very nice but there was one belt… I don’t think all three would’ve been undisputed if everyone got a trinket, they climbed the rankings but things slip through the cracks namely things named Braddock lol.

 

I never tried to ‘bash’ him
I only said the last bonafide top ten guy was Lewis. Sure some have Wlad in there, but he’s not on everybody’s list like Lewis is.

That’s okay, you’re bashing him a little bit from the POV of someone who has him in the top 5-ish could you explain why he’s not “any good” etc or in the top 10? I like to hear different takes.
