Lyle is Taylor made for Marciano. He’s a less stamina having but stronger version of Layne. Literally Taylor made for him.
Lyle, like Cleveland Williams, is one who should beat Marciano on paper, but somehow, I think Marciano would prevail, stopping a weary Lyle in the mid-to-late rounds. But it would be a tough fight for Marciano.
Marciano beat two opponents similar to Lyle old Louis and Rex Layne. They were particularly easy fights because they were both feet planting punchers that weren’t movers. Lyle had terrible stamina issues and wasn’t particularly adaptable. He would struggle terribly w Marciano in every way. He gets knocked out within ten.
Bigger than Layne ,hits harder than Layne, has better defence than Layne, and is a better boxer than Layne. Why do you say Lyle has less stamina than Layne?,Why are you so sure stamina would even be a factor in this matchup?
Lyle couldn't beat a washed up Ali...or a washed up Foreman...but he's going to beat one of boxings all time great warriors?...a prime Rocky Marciano?...yeah...and then you woke up!...
Lyle is not a better boxer nor better defensively. They both are poor in that department. They both are very similar. Layne is a little smaller but faster and has better stamina. Which fighting Marciano is important for any fighter. Lyle is known to get tired in his fights and gets extremely sloppy once so. If you can’t see how that’s a factor when fighting one of the most busy fighters ever w power in both fists I’m not sure what to tell you. I know you’re not a Layne fan because he lost to Marciano but the truth is him and Lyle have similar career accomplishments. I’d even say Layne is more accomplished having beaten two former champs and several solid contenders also being bigger means nothing in boxing terms it’s not going to improve your boxing record in any way. Listing an inch and half height advantage means nothing.
Neither the ancient, balding, paunchy, one-handed mummy calling himself Joe Louis nor the Girl Scout weak, flabby, doughboy Rex Layne were anything close in physical potential and acuity to the feral, robust, dominating physical presence of Ron Lyle. Lyle was a prototype for the super athlete that would dominate the majority of all sporting fields from Liston/Jim Brown/Chamberlain's inception to the modern day. There is simply no place in that era for a specimen such as Marciano, or Layne, or an old Joe Louis Barrow.
Do you actually watch boxing or just stare at men’s body types? You don’t seem to know much of the sport. Lyle was sloppy had **** stamina and poor defense. He had an excellent power. Not that impressive.

Yes, and in Louis I see a shadow of a shadow of a once great fighter, a guy with one slow arm, doddering footwork reminiscent of a recent former US president, and a look of resignation about him like a man being sent to the gallows. When I watch boxing involving Rex Layne I see a real tough SOB with limited skills and even more limited physical prowess.
Guys, I don't know where all this talk of Lyle's "poor stamina" originated, but let me tell you, I was a huge fan during the Lyle era and practically knew what every top contender had for breakfast. And believe me, no one was talking about Lyle and poor stamina. Not during his prime ('74-'75) anyway. The guy was fighting hard fights with Bonavena, Ellis, Young and Ali during this time frame and that wasn't even a topic of conversation. Regarding a matchup with Rocky, this would scare me. Because of the Foreman fight I think Lyle is thought of only as a bruiser today but he could box as well. He was very well rounded. If matched prime for prime I just can't get myself to go against Rocky. Moreover, I think he would welcome the fight. However, there is no way in hell Al Weill would ever sign Rocky with a prime Lyle.
