Later career Holmes showed off a very good/great chin but he could be hurt and it was his will to survive/win that was the real standout imo.

For one example, it was like a literal self resurrection when Larry picked himself up after being dropped as if he’d been shot dead by Earnie Shavers.

This version of Holmes only had a few years experience. He worked hard at his craft and became a master boxer. Wells was further along experience wise at this point.

When he was an amateur? Yes maybe in their primes they could beat Holmes the 19 year old amateur. But prime to prime Holmes beats each by 1 st round knockout.
