Maybe he wasn't but based on what we knew at the time him being in the top 10 was a no brainer. Before the incident in 2023 its hard to not have Wallin in the top 10 when he beat Gassiev whose only loss was to Usyk and Wallins only loss was to Fury. If you rate Usyk and Fury as the top 2 that fact pattern justifies a top 5y ranking in any era.

Fury tricked us into overrating him but the fact remains he tricked us. We have no idea who was actually better than him. Knowing he tricked us does not give us clarity only more questions.

At some point Wallin had to have been top 10 even if that point was in the 2010s or something. Its only a question of how long. But if Wallin was never top 10 not enough fighters got oppurtunities in Wallins era to prove that. It is a possibility but like everything in this era we just don't know.

He seems like the lightest punching 6'4 HW of all time. It's incredible he actually gave Fury the biggest cut of all time with that harmless looking punch in the corner. It's absolutely crazy what happened.

I expected more from him after that fight because he showed determination, engine and chin.

Then he got easily beaten by AJ and Chisora and after that I decided he isn't good. Helenius gave AJ a better fight and he was gone by then.

Losing to old Chisora is basically ridiculous for a 6'4 HW who is supposed to be good.

I know Sweden is finished by I still expected something better from Otto.

Yep and I'm glad to have been proven wrong shortly afterwards when Joshua and Chisora embarrassed him. In fact, not sure if it was on this forum or elsewhere, I already mentioned recently I had way overestimated Wallin's win over Gassiev. In hindsight obviously there were 10 heavyweights in 2023 better than Otto Wallin. Nice find on the old comment, you "got" me. But I'm allowed to admit when I was clearly wrong (as 89.5% of pollsters here have shown me already), Otto Wallin obviously was not a top 10 fighter

While there probably were 10 HWs better than Wallin in November 2023 do we have any idea who they were? And did they have the feats at the time to indicate that. I feel like this is an "iceberg" situation where we kinda know its there but we can't actually see it.

Ah yes, in the era of ancient forever fringe contendor Chisora being bonafide top 10, Wallin is barely top 30...

Hate to burst your bubble Fury haters, but this era sucks and Wallin is probably about as good as most of em....

Well I am glad you admit you get things wrong. But you are still wrong now. And the poll is meaningless (take it from an expert).
The OP isn't even sure what question they are asking.

Either way, let's not rewrite history to suite your narrative

That same ancient, shot Chisora pretty much won every round against Wallin and dropped him twice.

I could understand it if the argument was something like "Now the dust has settled was Wallin among the 10 heavyweights of this era (the last decade)?", then of course the answer is no. But was he ever a top 10 heavyweight? Well, the record shows the answer was yes, he was in 2023:

    The orgs thought he was
The independent rankings (boxing writers) thought he was
Many (not all) of the fans thought he was

This is such a weird thread

He was maybe on the fringes of top 10 at some point.

If you say "yes" it confirms the era is ****. If you say "no", then every argument that leans on beating the dude is ****. Is this what is known as a dilemma?

From the couple of fights I've seen him in, he looks about as scary as Charles Martin.

It was a weird era. It comes with the territory.

You say "when the dust has settled". The dust never actually settled.

Well, that is getting a little too philosophical for me. Does the dust ever actually settle?
