What did we learn \ NOT learn about Itauma tonight?

We didnt learn a thing from Itauma

We just saw Dillian take a dive and paycheck

He didnt throw any resistance, he just fell

How come Itauma didnt KO lesser opponents in round 1

 

I’m impressed, handled the bright lights really well, great speed, power, accurate well placed combos, great footwork, composed, smart natural fighter. Number one question is the chin, which is good enough we haven’t seen him hurt and he doesn’t look to be the slightest bit gun shy or afraid to mix it up. Stamina obviously because he’s been so effective. And how he handles adversity because he’s good enough he hasn’t had to. Really impressive showing, looking forward to seeing a lot more of him.

 

We learnt that Queensberry and Turki have big plans for Itauma.

 

We learnt the biggest question - which was whether Itauma was good enough for such a level after beating good journeymen. And Itauma has shown he is good enough for such a level.

But yeah stamina, chin, resilience, ability to deal with a jab, durability, etc - it hasn't been tested yet.

 

Outside that he can handle the pressure of being a headliner and a 'name-based step up', we didn't learn anything new about Moses. We learned a lot about Whyte though - he's cooked!

 

We still don't know if he can really fight for more than a round at a time. Every time I've seen him fight either it ends in the first round or there's a break afterward before the second starts. How can anyone gauge his stanmenna?

 

We learnt that there is little point in him facing the likes of Parker, AJ or Fury. As he would blow those fighters away early bells as well.

Stick him in Usyk now.

 

We learnt hes actually ready to step up to world level.

We've not learnt if hes any better than Ajagba, Bakole, Zhang or Wardley yet.

Hes in that ballpark though.

 

I think he can beat Joe Parker so if I was his management I won’t run from that fight or Bakole. They may give him rounds because of their durability.

 

On a serious note I actually think you can put him in with those guys/

 

No. Why would you do that and potentially ruin the future of boxing? Also he and AJ are quite close with the same training team so won’t happen nor will he and Fury fight.

agreed. Putting him in with Usyk will derail his momentum, confidence, etc. because Usyk will absolutely find every single flaw and wreck him.

he’s the likely future face of boxing. HW is the marquee division, the UK is the premiere boxing nation, and I can see Ituama developing a Tyson-esque aura. The sport needs guys like that bring new people in. Don’t ruin him. Make no mistake — there’s a world in which he ends up the biggest HW draw since Tyson.

at this point, put him in with mid level guys and has beens. He’s not taking any damage, there’s no need to space the fights out, he could probably do 5-6 over the course of a year. Then chase titles.

 

We learned Ituama can handle the pressure of being a headliner and the pressure of sky high expectations. That’s not nothing.

and maybe I’m wrong but he looked sharper in ring than he has before. More defensively responsible.
