Ken Norton lost to most big punchers that he faced. Wardley is modern-day 6'5, 250lb heavyweight and a big hitter but he's less skilled than Kenny. Who takes it.

While what you are saying is true what "lost to most big punchers he faced" means is Foreman, Cooney and Shavers. Cooney and Shavers in the final few fights of Kens career.

Fabio Wardley is one of the worst HW world champs in history and probably a majority of non champion contenders are better then him. Hes not anywhere near the level of a Cooney or a Shavers.

What're you talking about? Wardley has never been a world champion. He has been the British and Commonwealth champion, and currently holds a WBA interim belt.

 

An interim belt is a world title.

 

I guess technically it is. But in reality it just isn't, every person with an interim or silver or gold or international belt is not a world champion. The only person who should be calling Wardley a world champion is his PR department (and even they know it's nonsense).

 

Norton outboxes him thoroughly. Green, late-replacement Huni did it well for nearly 10 rounds, Norton could do it for 15.

 

Huni used lateral movement and had very quick hands.

Norton can't fight on the backfoot with the way he drags his right foot and didn't fare well vs punchers.

Norton rates higher than Wardley but it may not be the best style match up for Norton.

None of his team refer to him as a world champion. Wardley speaks of aspirations to become a world champion, and doesn't (quite rightly) even refer to the WBA (regular) as a world title. He seems to be treating the regular belt route as a stepping stone to an actual world title shot.

You'd think, since this is a boxing forum, people would know a bit about boxing. Yesterday people in the world forum were getting Whyte a shot at beating Itauma, some referring to him as the favourite... now this?

 

Norton beat Quarry who was a big puncher. He lost to Foreman yes but I don’t get the ‘he didn’t do well against big punchers’ thing, lots of people got blasted out by Foreman.

Norton had an awkward defence, Wardley would’ve struggled to catch him. And Norton would’ve sat down on his punches which Huni didn’t do once in their fight.

Norton was just a totally different level to Wardley. Wardley is bigger but that doesn’t mean he’d win. Surprised anyone is packing Wardley to win when he’s never shown he could beat a top 10 guy.
