I'm down for it happening. Usyk, Fury, Wilder, AJ, Joyce, Zhang and Whyte are within 2-3 years of retiring. Even guys like Hrgovic, Kabayel and Parker are no spring chickens themselves. This HW era is ending and there are no promising future prospects. Who's gonna be there for Itauma in 3-4 years ? Anderson and Jalolov ? Buns. I'm fairly positive Itauma is gonna rule over a wasteland if he doesn't Mike Tyson his 20's away and becomes just another guy. So why not make the match up between the best HW of this era and the best Heavy of the next era ?
If Turki puts up the money I could see Usyk vs Itauma going ahead. Still too early for Itauma imho, but when you get an opportunity like that how could you turn it down? Also would Usyk want it? I assume if Turki puts enough money in front of him he would take it and just drop the WBO. But it is a big risk to Usyk legacy and reputation wise, but also huge reward if he catches Itauma now and beats him it would elevate him in the long term as Itauma is looking like the future of the division.
People should be calling for Itauma to fight someone like: Parker, Kabayel, Wardley, Ajagba, or Hrgovic ... , They can get a fight like that made this year, and if he blows even one of those out easily, we can start talking about him and Usyk and 'passing the torch' etc.
You don't put a guy in with Usyk who has only been six rounds twice. Why the hell not? Because even if he's the real deal, he needs to know how to pace himself over at least 10 before stepping up. They need to make sensible, prudent decisions in relation to Itauma's opposition before going for all the marbles against the best fighter in the game. I think we might see Itauma in with Joe Parker who he will beat. Or will if he's as good as he's cracked up to be. Maybe Kabayel after that. Then he's ready for Usyk. Waiting another couple of fights before taking a shot at Usyk is only going to benefit Itauma.
I think people forget how old Jalolov is... And how young, relatively speaking, Parker is. Jalolov is 31. Kabayel is 32. Parker is 33. This is, of course, assuming that Itauma doesn't have limitations in the chin and/or stamina department that we haven't seen yet. He looks like the most promising prospect right now, but in the final reckoning it's not certain yet that he'll be the dominant champ of the next era - it could even be Dubois still, for all we know!
The division is too clogged. Itaumas 10 years younger than most ranked HW. Hes got time. Lots of it. No one else really does except Dubois and Jared Anderson. Lets try and give all the older HWs a chance before they enter Jake Pauls preferred age bracket. On the flipside Itauma might be ready but he might not be why rush him? Under different circumstances a shot could be justified. Many who've deserved a title shot much less have got one in recent memory. But its just not really neccessary right now. If Usyk beats Itauma and he goes on to be a star, Itauma was young enough where the win will be a Johnson v Langford thing. If Itaumas the next Dominick Guinn the fight will be a waste of time. If he must get a title shot the best choice is Parker.
Not only them. Look at the top 50. Almost everyones a decade older than Itauma. Dubois and Jared Anderson are the only other mid 20s who are anywhere close to relevance. Because no ones got a shot everyones acting like these fighters who haven't gotten shots are prospects. They are not.
