Marciano best weight was like 185 pounds. Fraziers was 205 pounds. Depends on how much value you place on that 20 pounds. On the other hand, Marciano was a better 2 handed puncher, Frazier seemed to have a harder left hook and Marciano a harder right hand. Both seemed to have similar durability. However, we never seen Marciano in with a very hard world class puncher to know how he recovers from being hit by one. We all saw what happened in Frazier vs Foreman.

If Marciano was born 5 years later and turned pro in 1953 instead of 1948, then we may have seen him against Cleveland Williams and most of all, Sonny Liston. Depending on how he did against them would of told us how he does against big punchers. So Marciano is a question mark against big heavyweight punchers.

Walcott and Moore could crack, though. I don't see any reason to put them under say, Quarry when it comes to pure punching power.

Scheduling this for 15 rounds is a waste of an evening time slot. Three rounds should be sufficient

I said the same thing about fifteen years ago in one of the Marciano vs Tyson or Foreman threads

Rocky. The fight would be insanely fun to watch in real time, I feel.

It's Violence Jack... But Wyald was pretty damn brutal, too. Shame that there's never been a proper Berserk anime with him in it, makes for a great lead-up to the eclipse.

100% First time we see Guts overcome the supernatural and dig deep, makes it more believable when he’s smiting guys during the eclipse, we see he’s on that level but it shows us how hopeless it is at the same time… bit of character building too for Zodd and foreshadowing for the “festival” bit too much gore porn for most doe with Ol Wyald.

I think Wilder would have difficulty landing on the crouching Marciano.Wilder looked good bouncing his right hand off of tall up right guys, but this is one time I think the often discussed lack of height being an advantage, may actually work out.

Wilder is a long puncher and has no clue how to fight inside.
Marciano obviously has to close the range and get there.

Wilder's optimum range here would be when he has full extension on that wrecking ball right hand, and Rocky is still well out of punching distance.
Rocky's M.O. would be to get inside and work the body,to bring those hands down before looking for the head.

The problem is Wilder had pretty good punch resistance, and, though lacking in skills was certainly not deficient in courage.
Both men have puzzles to solve, Wilder has to keep Rocky out at his preferred range.
Foreman would do this by pushing Marciano back by the shoulders as he did Frazier, and uppercutting him when the chance was there, but Foreman was a tremendously powerful man and a two fisted ko puncher, would Wilder be able to halt Rocky and push him back in this way ? I don't know, but I doubt it.

Wilder has a decent jab but neglects it,maybe it could be an important factor here?

Marciano has a mountain to climb, his tiny reach dictates he has to close the distance, and batter the body to take the steam out of Wilder's lean torso,as he did the pudgy Layne.

Wilder was hurt and dropped by a Fury body shot but Fury weighed half as much again as Rocky .
How many opportunities will Rocky get to land his Suzie Q on Wilder's chin, sitting up there atop the stratosphere of his 6ft 7in height?

I rarely pick Marciano against modern day heavies, but can see a case for either man in this match up.
One prediction I am prepared to make is if Wilder lands flush with his right,Marciano is going down and may not be getting up.I do not have the same confidence in Rocky achieving the same result .

Brushing off a 20-pound gap at heavyweight is absurd. Frazier wasn’t just bigger, he was faster, more skilled, and a more complete fighter than Marciano. The size only widens a gap that already existed.

That Quarry comparison doesn’t hold water. Walcott and Moore actually floored Marciano — Quarry never came close to putting Frazier down. So if your point is about punching power, Marciano’s resume works against him, not for him. What exactly are you trying to argue here?

Been a fan since I was a wee kiddy I was making jokes about Miura dying before finishing berserk BEFORE it seemed possible / serious  Back when “idol master” was the biggest threat to the series (at least the memes said so) sad stuff, wish it didn’t “end” this way.

EDIT: Wrote the wrong authors name lol
