So I see a listing that Michael Hunter vs. Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller is on for Sept. 11 from Vegas to be carried on DAZN.

And then I go to the DAZN site.... and sure enuff, it's not there. Not a first for a listing to fall thru the cracks there.

But I check a little further and, lo and behold, the irrepressible Don King -- 93 and still goin' -- has gotten a cease & desist against the fight: https://sports.yahoo.com/boxing/art...vs-michael-hunter-announcement-155216924.html

And good ol' Don is announcing he's got Hunter committed to an Oct. 4 face-off in Miami with Kubrat Pulev: https://www.*******.com/articles/don-king-selects-new-date-and-venue-for-michael-hunter-kubrat-pulev

I'm sure Hunter's happy in retrospect that (however it happened) he got involved with King... ;)

To any fighters contemplating signing with Don "Dracula" King, try calling Larry Holmes or Mike Tyson (whichever will take your call) for starters....

Don King didn't throw a wrench in anything here.

Don King won the purse bid to hold the Pulev-Hunter title fight. The winning bid was $1.1 million. Hunter will get a six-figure payday.

The bout is for the WBA "Regular" Heavyweight title. The winner becomes the WBA mandatory challenger for Usyk or will become the full champ if Usyk relinquishes.

The fact that Hunter just accepted a fight against Miller roughly three weeks before his title fight with Pulev, a fight with Miller that Hunter will likely lose, endangers the million-dollar investment King has put in the Pulev fight.

Don King did nothing wrong. Hunter should be in camp now preparing for the Pulev fight.

The Pulev fight for Hunter makes more sense anyway.

Sounds like Hunter IS NOT looking for an opportunity to win a title ... he's just looking to cash out.

It is impressive that Don King is still promoting, but why does he have such an atrocious stable?
An ancient Pulev and a faded Hunter are probably the best heavyweights he's had for a while. That's really bad.

It's a matchup between a WBA heavyweight champion against the WBA #1 heavyweight contender.

    And it's basically a pick'em fight.

There are far worse offerings by every promoter every week on TV.

I doubt it'll end as quickly as Itauma-Whyte.

I'm still trying to figure out the whole distinction (or point) among the various titles. Usyk of course is WBA's "Super" Champion, while the 44-year-old Pulev (who's fought 3X in as many years, and lost to Chisora in 2022) is granted the designation of "WBA World Champion" with Fabio Wardley as WBA's "Interim Champion." https://www.wbaboxing.com/wba-ranking

I'm sure someone can easily explain all this to me, but I hope I don't seem too clueless here... ;)

Actually, a fight I'd like to see, at some point soon (allowing for one or two Usyk conquests before then) would be Usyk-Wardley.

FWIW, the response from Hunter's lawyers: In essence, King ignored their redlines on his proposed contract, which they say contained "Draconian" terms, and, via lack of response to their complaints effectively voided the deal and any obligation Hunter may have had to King:

    https://fightsatw.com/the-legal-tug-of-war-between-michael-hunter-and-don-king-continues/

So it's "He said, he said..."

King may be within his legal rights, but one thing's not in dispute -- namely that there is in fact a legal dispute by both parties....

    All a f****** joke really.

Michael Hunter and Jarrell Miller are two divas who offer more drama and happenings to the sport, rather than actual fights. Let alone Don King.

    Muppets.

Just when you thought King was ready to go to hell, he returns to make the lives of boxers and boxing fans a living hell!

So this is the story as I see it so far.

Hunter is signed with King and King won the pursebid to make Pulev vs Hunter for the WBA regular, not a bad fight, decent pay day and a title shot for the winner.

There had since been no organization for the fight to take place even though it's about a month out, no venue booked etc.

So when Hunter got offered the Miller fight on a Saudi card after Anderson pulled out, he jumped at the opportunity and payday and tried to find a way out of his contract.

King wasn't happy about that and is trying to get Hunter to honor the agreement but it still looks like the fight is actually in doubt of taking place.

Pulev and his team are sitting on the sidelines unhappy either way.

Sometimes a Don King event does come off. Who can forget the epic Trevor Bryan vs Daniel Dubois fight that he promoted.

It was like watching a comedy sketch at times. As was seeing Bryan who has all the athletic talent of an obese Warhammer nerd, who had amassed a 22-0 impressive record. Then selling his undefeated record to young Daniel was definitely exciting stuff for the fans.

Hunter seems to have an uncanny ability for ruining his own career outside of the ring. You would have to bet that neither Pulev or Miller comes off, and he ends up fighting in a Las Vegas casino against a bouncer in December in front of 10 people to keep himself active this year.

Yeah I remember, it was actually a pretty fun event in that regard, as long as your expectations weren't high of a serious boxing event.

Maybe that is what King is trying to do now, get the WBA regular to Hunter so he can sell it to Warren for Itauma.

Nope. The winner will have to face Wardley for the mandatory spot. The WBA set a small tournament in motion.

I think that it should be noted that I do not believe a Don King promoted fight has taken in place in 2025..........................he's sitting on fighters and doing nothing, this has been his MO for years/decades. Hunter took an opportunity where no other avenues existed. So did King do anything wrong? Technically no, morally and ethically.....................I will say he ain't doing something right.
