If we turned it in to a ‘slap contest’ where it was just I punch you, you punch me there’s probably some iron chinned guys we haven’t heard of could do it.
Don’t know if there’s many outside of Duran or Robinson who could actually make Leonard brawl though, he just outboxes the big hitters like Trinidad or Cuevas.
I wouldn’t favour him but on his best night Basilio is one guy who could maybe take it to Leonard and make it that kind of a fight.

That's ok my man, like I said mine is a minority take, feel like Don Quixote, tilting at windmills, and seeing as you're a fine and honest poster, I will take it in the manner it is meant, healthy, polite, disagreement, should be at the heart of this forum, and exception, if it is not obnoxious, is welcome.
stay safe Mandela2039. chat soon buddy.

    Hi Buddy.
You may well be right, I have not seen the fight for decades, and my ole memory isn't that good, as to me saying it was a close fight, I was just going by the judges of the fight, 148/147 145/144 146/144, pretty tight I would say, but I respect your opinion, and your right to express.

When I watch it, I see the majority of rounds close, but Duran winning most of those rounds. The few rounds that were clearer, Duran won most of those as well.
I think Duran was shafted somewhat on the cards despite the UD.

I agree, Duran won the fight convincingly.
But the last three rounds Leonard won
and that may have influenced the judges.
I also believe it may have been the seeds
of self doubt that ultimately was the result
Of their fight in New Orleans.
Duran had to know in his head , Montreal was his very best effort ever, Yet Leonard was still their and winning the last few rounds.
What kind of effect that must have to think you can break a man, and do all that you can to accomplish that task,
But in the end, he's the one getting stronger.

    Agree also
I do think that Duran boxed within himself a bit in those rounds, he even clowned Leonard in the last round, but Leonard finished stronger for sure.
Yeah it took a ridiculous almost flawless fight from Duran to beat Leonard. I think from 78/79 -81 was the only time he could have done it, and what it took out of him I’m not sure he could have done it again.
In Orleans Ray knew he had him beat after the first couple of rounds, and Duran knew he would have got another few rounds of being mocked and then a few rounds of getting a beating if he didn’t quit.

    Hi Flash.
Just a friendly tug, if you don't mind, your closing phrase has a oxymoron feel about it, in that if you break a man, chances are he wouldnt be getting stronger, also not thinking Leonard was broken in any kind of way, far from it, if any of them were broken in their 2 fights it was Duran, broken in the mind that is.

The night that Duran fought Leonard for the first time. Leonard had no choice in how that fight played out because that was the greatest night of Roberto Duran's life. If you were to ask Duran about that fight, I expect that he would tell you that, all through his training, he felt it. the day of the fight there was no doubt, no nerves, because he knew. He would tell you that those 15 rounds went by in seconds when he wanted them to last forever because he knew that he would never feel that way again.
The OP makes no sense to me. What do 'slug' and 'brawl' even mean? In that fight the action was steady and sustained and the exchanges were sharp and violent. But the level of skill and education being displayed was nearly mythical. What was going on there was a level of skill and boxing acumen that no guy with tassels on his shoes and spouting stupid poems could ever hope to match.
Napoles, at his best, would beat Leonard. he was a master of distance and intelligent pressure and he was a more concussive puncher than Duran. Basilio would give him all he wanted.
When you start to put Leonard on a pedestal you have to be more thoughtful. Leonard, in spots, could be very tough to beat because his mentality didn't accept losing. But, if you watch his career, there was a lot of wiggle in his walk. I would argue that the first Hearns was the greatest night of Ray Leonard's life and, like his nemesis Duran, he never really reached those heights again.

Hearns, Leonard after Montreal was a better , much more
    confident fighter.
In Montreal Leonard got pulled into Hell, but he fought his
    way through.
That fight prepared Leonard for Hearns.
