    Round 5

Briscoe is juggernauting through Hagler's right jab, sticking his head to Hagler's chest, and pumping away down low with both hands. Hagler tries switching orthodox again, throwing stiff left jabs into Briscoe's orbital bone. Slight slowdown achieved, perhaps. Hagler leans in after the ref pushes them apart to reset from a clinch. Hagler braces himself off Briscoe with his left arm and throws a right uppercut, still from orthodox. Briscoe tries some looping shots up top, but they're caught on Hagler's shoulders. Hagler infighting well with his own short right hooks on the temple, before sliding outside and getting the jab going again, southpaw once more. Briscoe eats a few right hooks just before the bell trying to push his way inside.

Hagler does fine on the inside but decides to return to his comfort zone and resumes jabbing on the outside. Briscoe walking into lead lefts, arms folded in front of his face but the shots are breaking through. Briscoe is bowing in to either side, but Hagler has him scouted, timing his descents with right jabs or lead lefts. Briscoe walks into a right uppercut but gets in a few body shots. 1-2 by Hagler.

    Round 8

Briscoe is shoving in close, slipping some right jabs, but getting hit with as many. Briscoe now blocks some shots on his forearms as Hagler tees off from the orthodox stance. Southpaw again, Hagler dancing away, lightly jabbing with the right. Briscoe glues himself to Hagler's chest and swings some wide punches into Hagler's torso. Tossing back and forth in the pocket, but have their chins low and trade body shots or chopping neck shots. Hagler backing up scoring jabs but Briscoe bears down on him and scores some body shots. Overhand right by Briscoe! Hagler took it well, but Briscoe's best moment yet in the fight.

    10-9 Briscoe, very close

So...for me, Briscoe lost 8 of 10 rounds against Hagler and 12 of 15 against Monzón.

    8/10 = 80%
    12/15 = 80%

Great, that is so helpful in bringing us toward clarity.

Of course, Briscoe was older and more shopworn for this one - but also had home field advantage. And, he hurt Monzón twice - whereas even in the 1978 rounds that I gave him, Hagler wasn't hurt so much as he simply got mobbed and had his neat boxing spoiled by Briscoe's hard-headed indomitable body attack.

I think both did certain things very well against Bennie. Monzón probably controlled range a little better (with less actual distance traveled by his legs) while Hagler probably got in more clean punches and in particular was able to match Briscoe on the inside more.

    14. 10-9 Monzón, 139-127 Monzón
    15. 10-9 Monzón, 149-136 Monzón

So the majority (of an admittedly small sample size of five) agreed on 14-1 in favor of Monzón with Briscoe winning just round 9. KOUFAX75 was very generous in awarding Briscoe that round 10-8 ...seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Also interesting that doing so mathematically balanced out his even 10-10 in the 7th round. @PhillyPhan69 also scored that round even, but declined to give Briscoe the 15th as KOUFAX75 did - and PP69 also scored the 9th a reasonable 10-9 for Briscoe.

Curious that none of these scorers saw the 14th or 10th for Briscoe, as I did. (whereas I had the 7th close but clear for Monzón)

    As for Hagler vs. Briscoe:

    CHRIS M95

    1. 10-9 Hagler
    2. 10-9 Hagler, 20-18 Hagler
    3. 10-9 Hagler, 30-27 Hagler
    4. 10-9 Briscoe, 39-37 Hagler
    5. 10-9 Hagler, 49-46 Hagler
    6. 10-9 Hagler, 59-55 Hagler
    7. 10-9 Hagler, 69-64 Hagler
    8. 10-9 Briscoe, 78-74 Hagler
    9. 10-9 Hagler, 88-83 Hagler
    10. 10-9 Hagler, 98-92 Hagler

    GOODGOOD
    1. 10-9 Hagler
    2. 10-9 Hagler, 20-18 Hagler
    3. 10-9 Hagler, 30-27 Hagler
    4. 10-9 Briscoe, 39-37 Hagler
    5. 10-9 Hagler, 49-46 Hagler
    6. 10-9 Hagler, 59-55 Hagler
    7. 10-9 Hagler, 69-64 Hagler
    8. 10-9 Hagler, 79-73 Hagler
    9. 10-9 Briscoe, 88-83 Hagler
    10. 10-9 Hagler, 98-92 Hagler

    MAGIC MAN
    1. 10-9 Hagler
    2. 10-9 Hagler, 20-18 Hagler
    3. 10-9 Hagler, 30-27 Hagler
    4. 10-9 Briscoe, 39-37 Hagler
    5. 10-9 Hagler, 49-46 Hagler
    6. 10-9 Hagler, 59-55 Hagler
    7. 10-9 Hagler, 69-64 Hagler
    8. 10-9 Hagler, 79-73 Hagler
    9. 10-9 Hagler, 89-82 Hagler
    10. 10-9 Hagler, 99-91 Hagler

So the consensus reads that Briscoe definitely won the fourth - and perhaps either round 8 or 9, with Hagler clearly outboxing him in the remaining seven.

I now want to binge more Briscoe. :sisi1 Does anybody know if footage is known to exist or Kitten Hayward I & II? (guessing the latter from '75 is more likely, being it was, like Hagler vs. Briscoe, a high profile J. Russell Peltz card at the Spectrum. Not holding out much hope for Briscoe's loss a whole decade prior, even though it's the more compelling on paper - Kitten took a SD but waa hospitalized for concussion immediately afterward)

    Hi Buddy.
Just his name takes me back to my youth, oh how I waited for the Boxing News the week after a Briscoe fight, none more so than when he fought Mundine, despite being KOd by MMR, he was, in some quarters favoured over Bad Bennie, well remember the headline in that weeks BN, " The robot triumphs " the French press had called him such, also ( and I kept it for decades ) BN did a 4 page feature on him before the 2nd Valdez fight, the picture on the front page showed him sitting at a piano, with bandaged hands, looking askew at the photographer, anybody else ? him and Danny Lopez were long on dishing out excitement in the early 70s, good time to be a fan, I would profour.
stay safe IB, chat soon buddy.
    Mike.

To be fair, Pug, it's wholly unreasonable to expect a politician to consider the relative merits of legalising same sex marriage and how best to implement measures that reduce fatalities arising from crocodile attacks. Political resources can be directed at one or the other, not both.

Seriously, wtf?!? That's the most tenuous reasoning I've ever heard a mainstream politician give, it's sheer brilliance.

 Yes. Addressing two issues in separate due measure is clearly too much for Old Bob. Much easier to synthesise both concepts for an incoherent answer. :D
