The most ridiculous forum darling I have seen is probably Ali. This Nigerian cruiserweight who was a decent fighter but he has people constantly calling him the GOAT, and that he beats Liston, Foreman, Frazier, frigging everybody, like it's something he actually did. I just don't get it. Not now, not ever.

He legit got his arse handed to him by guys who were Foreman's size, too.

 

And Foreman didn’t get his ass handed to him by fighters Wlad’s size because he avoided them like the plague.

 

Of course, I'm not saying I got Wlad as a firm favorite, but I don't see him being scared either.

 

Were there a lot of fighters like that tho in the 70's and 90's?

 

I don't think names like Sonny Liston or George Foreman belong on this thread. They were great fighters who were champions.

It is the overrated contenders who deserve mention.

Cleveland Williams--why he is rated so high by many remains a head scratcher to me. Body beautiful? The Fact that his record is so vacant one can fill it in anyway one wants?

Eddie Machen and Zora Folley--two decent contenders who consistently lost to the best. I guess their over rating is due to their being "stylish" boxers.
