Gideon Tshizubu Mukonkole - whose first name is spelled "Gedeon" by the DiscoverSport.com graphic - has fought twice before, yet has never won nor lost. He is 0-0-2.

Commentators hyping up undefeated Amos "Odogwu" Maphande as being a huge puncher. Just looked up his nickname, it means "hero" in Igbo.

 

I believe this is the last 4-rounder before the "business end" of the card.

 

Likely a shutout for Maphande. Heavy-handed southpaw but Mukonkole's tough.

Jason Medi vs. Niclas Kasongo Nzengu II, 6 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Both are from the DRC, but Medi now resides in SA.


Medi defeated Nzengu via SD in a 6-rounder last October.

 

Medi with the salmon colored trunks with name is printed on the front. Nzengu in red with the crazy haircut and yellow shoes.

 

Medi accepted the rematch because he considers Nzengu a level below him and is offended it wasn't unanimous last time.

 

Medi spent the first round and a half warming up, boxing carefully from a Philly shell, but is now walking Nzengu down ripping uppercut and hook combos.

Nzengu is coming off a TKO1 loss in May to a debuting Leo Careri, so if Medi keeps up this pressure we could well finish up inside 6.

 

Good call by the ref - he sends Nzengu back to his corner to be toweled off, after the corner tried getting away with sending him out doused in water (to make his skin slippery so the opponent's punches slide).

Don't see that very often.

 

Nzengu rocked by some hooks, staggering across the ring away from Medi, and the ref waves it off as the same time Nzengu's corner throws in a towel.

TKO3!

 

That was a little scary...Nzengu lay down after the stoppage and wasn't moving for a couple of minutes. He still can't stand unassisted; they've got him a stool.
