Can the 52 year old Ike Ibeabuchi that retired Idris Afinni beat these gatekeepers: - Ebenezer Tetteh (fun fact: Tetteh retired former WBO African Heavyweight champion Haruna Osumanu who beat Afinni in two fights) - Mariusz Wach - Tyrell Herndon - Mike Balogun - Rydell Booker
Fighters that are a 'mystery' like Ibeabuchi gather so much attention on these forums as he failed to prove himself when it really mattered.
Ibeabuchi is a fossil relic. He's not beating any of these guys today, he's a senior citizen. Ajagba played with him in sparring
Ike runs a relatively active YouTube channel, uploading training videos every month or couple of months. The sparring starts in darkness, but they eventually turn on the lights. They, or the local government. This content is protected
Today those guys are in their mid 40s, it's totally possible Ibeabuchi might be able to beat them if he had a serious training camp.
As I already said, Ibeabuchi wasted a potentially great career, he is now just a shell of a former Top 10 fighter, I don't believe he can beat the aforementioned fighters...
Ibeabuchi is okay for a guy in his 50s who hasn't boxed in 25 years. But he's been away from boxing for a long time. Ajagba did go easy on Ibeabuchi in the sparring, but even going easy, at about 19:20 Ajagba put together a light jab-cross-hook combination that hurt/staggered Ibeabuchi to the point they had to stop the sparring and let Ibeabuchi clear his head. If Ibeabuchi is content to fight other older guys he might make some money, if he tries to fight younger fighters he'll probably end up like Liston did with Martin.
I don't think that's a fair assessment of him. The only reason Ike's career failed was due to psychological issues outside the ring; his best two performances were against Tua and Byrd, two fights that defined his career. Byrd went on to become a world champion, and Ibeabuchi nearly took his head off his shoulders. Tua was a monster and was avoided, and Ibeabuchi basically beat him at his own game. It's a huge "what if" but the idea of a 52-year-old man entering the professional rankings is worrying. It shouldn't be allowed, and it will end badly.
No, Ibeabuchi proved himself when it mattered. The only question left unanswered is does he beat Lennox Lewis? As for this version, I would not mind having the physical shape of Ike Ibeabuchi when I turn 52 years old. I think calling Usyk out is like saying Hey, I don't want to waste my time knocking out Bum Joshua I want to beat the current p4p unified heavyweight right here right now. That's understandable. And... I currently see him as capable of fighting with Kubrat Pulev if he has a serious professional camp. Let's call that a tune up fight.
If Ike is serious, he will go the George Foreman route and fight every 4 to 8 weeks. He literally has no time to waste.
