I'm struggling to think of a single prime ATG (Prime ATG from a H2H perspective) that he would be favoured to beat? Outside of Liston and Ali who already beat him one-sidedly, I feel like he'd almost definitely lose to:

    Joe Louis
    Rocky Marciano
    Joe Frazier
    Ken Norton
    George Foreman
    Larry Holmes
    Michael Spinks
    Mike Tyson
    Evander Holyfield
    Oleksandr Usyk

Then he'd also obviously lose to the Super Heavies in :
    Lennox Lewis
    Riddick Bowe
    Vitali Klitchko
    Wladmir Klitchko
    Tyson Fury
    Anthony Joshua

But even if you go backwards, I think Max Schmeling and Gene Tunney should be favored over him, and then Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson would be toss ups and 50/50 fights

So is there anyone who Floyd be favored to beat H2H? Outside of former middleweights I can't think of anyone.

You might pick him over ye olde heavyweights.

But he isn't an ATG heavyweight.

So this is in no way unusual.

Also whilst the thread is inherently negatively / critical this isn't meant to be a hate thread or anything like that. I just kinda had an epiphany whilst writing a response in another thread that Floyd just straight up might actually not be an all time great fighter, which is kind of blowing my mind right now.

If he's not an ATG heavyweight and he's not an ATG light heavyweight...

    :(

Yeah, he's not an ATG anything, he was a wonderful fighter who is grossly underrated by you based upon your posting.

That's kind of my point though. For the past several years up until about yesterday he was obviously a lower tier ATG in my head, but then today I realised that might not be the case, which is kind of shocking.

How am I "grossly underrating" him though? The only rating I've given him is "not an ATG", which is a rating you yourself apparently agree with lol.

Patterson would beat the crap out of Michael Spinx, I have no idea why he's on this list.

There's several hall of fame/atg champs Patterson could potentially beat and would be 50:50 or 60:40 odds with. But very few he would be favored to beat.

I would favor Patterson to beat

    Marvin Hart
    Jefferies
    Johnson
    Braddock
    Pinklon Thomas
    Tony Tubbs

I’d add Norton to this list. If one favors Norton, no biggie. Putting him in the list of guys that “almost definitely” beat him alongside guys like Foreman and Tyson is absurd.

I’d say Johnson is the only ATG of that bunch, and whether I’d favor Floyd to beat him depends on the ruleset and equipment.

If we’re fighting in Johnson’s day by his rules and equipment (allowing him to grasp Floyd around the wrists and control him), I think Jack probably wears Floyd down. If we’re fighting in Floyd’s days with his rule set and equipment, I’d favor Patterson.

I don't think Spinks "definitely" beat him. I think either beats the other on the right night. Might need a trilogy to settle it.

I'd say the same for Max Schmeling Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe Walcott vs Floyd Patterson.

I don't know if I favor him vs Max Baer. Patterson is loads more skilled but imo Baer is more dangerous than Johansson.

Of course it depends on the definition of "all time great." I probably rank Floyd higher than most. I would favor Floyd Patterson over Ezzard Charles, Michael Spinks, Gene Tunney, and Jersey Joe Walcott. And I think he would have a good chance of beating Max Schmeling. I also think he would decision Max Baer if he could survive until the end (which is possible).

Agreed. My head spun around when I read that. That's not a night Kenny could brush off.
