He was very lethargic in the next 3 rounds following the knockdown and on my card he lost those rounds. Credit to him he got the stoppage at the end but that’s moreso due to Wlad being 41 and taking his foot off the gas. It doesn’t disprove the overall point that AJ’s recovery is very poor for an otherwise world level champion and especially in comparison to Fury
Still say he messed up his own career, by spending too long, trying to learn how to be a boxer. They used to show video,s of him training when he was younger. It was pretty much a lot of explosive strength work. As the years went on it appears he started doing less of that and more pad work etc in order to become a boxer. Something he didnt really have the natural tools for. His boxing did improve but he lost the strength. Should have always been a bludgeoning type of fighter as opposed to a skilled one imo. He had the size the strength and power to be a real danger. He then lost that strength...started thinking too long and became vulnerable. Think the turning point was the klitchko fight. He thought he needed to become a boxer to avoid getting put over when the reality is it actually made him more vulnerable to getting hit. Still say he would have been better if he put that knockdown just down to one of them things. Klitchko just had the tools and got on with his journey. Instead it ended up changing his whole regime.
Joshua was great for the modern day Era of heavyweights, he made for big fights, but he just wasn't as good as advertised. Did he have a weak chin? Not imo, I think his chin was pretty solid considering he's only been dropped a handful of times if that, in the biggest fights of his career.
The AJ hate is unwarranted, but internet nerds love kicking people when they're down.. I'm not a fan of the guy at all, but he was a solid champ and a top fighter in the division for a while.. I love how people apply context only when its convenient... The same people will unironically say AJ was always a bum because DuBois trounced him in his last fight, then argue that Parker is the 2nd or 3rd best fighter of the era, ignoring that AJ beat him relatively easily, or justify it by saying "Parker is better now", while failing to acknowledge AJ may be worse now than he used to be......
