Going down the Pov rabbit hole lately, his performance agianst Byrd was awesome.

Whose the earliest fighter in boxing history you'd pick to beat him? Louis? Dempsey? Marciano?

Louis probably after that Ali don't really see anyone before or in-between beating him

Anyone you see putting up a good fight in a losing effort? Walcott and Charles could be interesting for a bit, Charles moreso.

Charles maybe or Walcott could be interesting but I feel both would eventually get caught and neither would have the chin to deal with Povetkin's power but both have the skill to frustrate him

I'm surprised at the Tunney pick, in previous threads you seem to disregard the skills of Gene's era. What makes this different?

Povetkin couldn’t have been much better than Dempsey.

I’d say he was certainly better than the versions of Dempsey that Gene fought.

Could be. But it’s still Povetkin.

The Huck fight gives me enough confidence to pick Louis.

But Povetkin is a difficult nights work for any non super heavyweight in history.

Huck-Povetkin was so weird, needs a rewatch maybe.

I'd add Louis and Liston as distinct possibles.
