Hello all, since we sort of answered the controversy over the "back hand" aka straight/cross in Britain, and there is another thread about Buster Douglas vs. Mike Tyson on the front page, I would like to go deeper into the subject of switch hitting, as in when a fighter eschewed his usual stance and landed successful punches "from the other side".

I have always been extremely impressed with the form and power of the last straight left Buster landed as an orthodox fighter. Looks like a southpaw throwing his power hand. Of course it was the last punch in a devastating salvo but nonetheless I find the technique impressive. Any other examples?

Marvin Hagler is a pretty good example.

    Also, Mike Tyson.

Any specific punches thrown you would add or just the overall work? I know Hagler was a blueprint for switch hitting.

I believe one of the greatest examples ever is James Toney vs. Michael Nunn.

Toney from orthodox hit Nunn with two right uppercuts then stepped back into a southpaw stance and then melted Nunn with a left cross. It always irks me because media and even history remembers it as a left hook that destroyed Nunn when it was a left cross. He also did this against Jason Robinson? but in kinda reverse. He threw two right hands then brought his right foot forward, crouched and loaded up and started a left cross but brought his entire left foot along with all of his body weight back forward past his right foot.

Holy ****, yes! The right "back hand" (sorry to all the British chaps, taking the **** here) hurts Nunn, and James has his right foot forward while delivering an exquisite left cross to knock down Nunn. Love the clean technique from the "wrong" stance by Toney.
