Fritzie Zivic …I listened to the radio broadcast of one of their fights …it sounded like Zivic gave it to Armstrong pretty good …he landed a lot of uppercuts on the inside

    Hi Buddy.
He shaw did, Armstrong fought with a severely lacerated tongue for the last third from memory, so had to swallow a lot of blood, which of course makes you nauseous, Fritzie had been clamoring for the fight for some time, he told all and any reporters that he would beat Henry because " maybe all the WWs in the rankings could beat me, but I know I can beat Armstrong, because he delivers to my delight " the inference was plain to see, Zivic knew Henry would fight just where Fritzie wanted him to fight, up close, where he always fought, but instead of backing off, or retreating, or fighting at long range, where most fought Armstrong, he was probably the best in fighter of all time, so he raked Henry with vicious uppercuts, mauled and pulled him time and again, the ever so brave Armstrong didn't know any other way to fight, round after round he walked or run, on to more of the same, towards the finish both eyes were swollen, cut and bruised, the mouth oozing blood, it was a testament to his courage and fighting heart that he lasted the 15 rounds, unlike himself who backed off Ross somewhat, to maybe allow the great man to last the distance, this kindness was not in Fritzies nature, he revelled in Armstrongs plight, Greb aside, or maybe not, was there ever a more dirty, vicious, downright, cantankerous fighter as Zivic, er, Chuck Wiggins.
stay safe BT, chat soon buddy.
    Mike.

The foul in the Armstrong-Zivic match that prompted the "if that's the way you want it" remark from the referee, was an Armstrong foul. Worth remembering.

Fritzie Zivic wrote an impassioned defense of fouling, called "you have to fight dirty."

He argued at all the great fighters of history had been dirty fighters, and that a discrete rabbit punch was as much a thing of beauty, as a perfectly executed bolo punch.

The most experienced fighter we’ve had (to my knowledge) outside the guys like Starling / Witherspoon a poster named Rockin’ who publicly talked about sparring world champions namely James MFing Toney talked about how when you’re fouled you foul back and everything is made equal, I believe that’s the jist of it, low blow for low blow and the records clean between the two… but then there’s the Holyfields, Saddlers, Fullmers…

Both of them were dirty fighters, except Zivic was more dirty and Hank had two bad mitts going into this fight. There was fighter that sent Armstrong to the hospital with a gash eyelid, requiring 4 stitches, broken hand placed in a cast, other badly bruised, and treatment of bruises over entire face, and he did this half blind have the fight, prior to this fight Armstrong under Eddie Mead's management never was cut. It wasn't Armstrongs mitts that closed his opponents eye, it was his elbows and hitting numerous low blows entire fight. Zivic was handily beaten by this fighter for amateur title, and passed on fighting him in the pros, and who wasn't a dirty fighter. I'll post a clipping of Armstrong's statement after he fought the toughest fighter he ever had.

Reading this reminds me when I was a teenager and we had timed basketball games in Puerto Rico.....baskets were counted by 2s and 3s and there were free throws after every foul.

Anyways, we'd be down 20 with 3 minutes to go and then we'd launch the three pointers cause you never know, if you are down by 20 but make 5 3s you may actually come back! I know its not comparable to a sport where yu can actually die, but the never quit attitude on our part was!

Fritzie Zivic is one definitely underrated boxer. I loved him as a teenager who read Ring Magazine in equal amounts f time as I did Tiger Beat lol. These days you dont read that much about him!

    Petey Sarron!

LOL all jokes aside, Sarron was one courageous dude who took one of the worse beatings ever in a six round span

But if you ask me, it was Zivic.
