Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Rakim Cleveland, 5 rounds @ heavyweight

 

Jairzinho "Bigi Boy" Rozenstruik of Suriname is 15-6 in MMA; Rakim "Boogeyman" Cleveland of Texas is 23-18-1.

They're both 1-0 in DTY, and both won their debuts by KO.

 

This is for the inaugural Dirty Boxing world heavyweight championship.

I believe it also is the first title bout for the promotion in any division.

 

People in the YouTube comments all night have been attempting to decipher just what Mike Perry is on. (ie alcohol, cocaine, both, something else...)

 

Round 1

Very cautious and boring first couple of minutes. Rozenstruik pawing out his left jab, Cleveland his right jab, neither really committing. Literally not one power shot thrown in the first 100 seconds.

WHOA, BABY!

Cleveland tries moving in with a right hook around Rozenstruik's jab, and boy does he pay for it! Rozenstruik countered with a quick left hook, and what's crazy is he technically (under pro boxing rules) didn't even land it - not with the knuckles anyway. Cleveland is KTFO, as in out cold, lying supine and unconscious - from contact with Rozenstruik's left wrist.

Rozenstruik bowled in a right uppercut for good measure before the ref could get in but I'm pretty sure Cleveland was already sleeping by then.

KO1!

 

What the hell?

Andrei Arlovski enters the ring to congratulate Rozenstruik and declare his intentions to be his first challenger! I guess he's already 1-0 in the promotion, winning at Dirty Boxing 1.

 

I didn't hate this. Obviously no substitute for the genuine article sweet science, but, it's kind of like what I'd always wished MMA was. All the parts I actually like, with none of the judo and wrestling.

I just wish they sprinkled in a few people that had boxing as their 1st discipline, obviously nobody good or else they'd be committing murder in there, but maybe some journeymen or washed ex-contenders.

The quality of striking was a little better than I'd have thought from a bunch of BKB and MMA guys.

 

This will be a rematch of sorts. They met in the UFC in 2019, with Rozenstruik knocking Arlovski out in 29 seconds.

 

He's also a decade older than Roz, pushing 50. Idk, I'll be rooting for ol' vamp fangs.


Btw was I right about the UFC "three losses and you're cut" rule?
