Wilder and Ortiz fought twice when they were top 10 rated HWs with Wilder twice winning inside the distance in competitive fights Who would you favour if they were to fight each other now?
Would favor the Ortiz who fought against Ruiz a few years ago against this current version of Wilder. No idea currently.
This is how I feel as well. There is no telling what Ortiz has left or how he would look in the ring these days because it’s been too long since we last saw him in action.
He has skill and proper boxing mechanics going for him though which Wilder lacks. Wilder relied of crude power, timing and speed the latter two have diminished considerably. Even his power seems to be somewhat lacking now probably because he lacks the speed and reaction time that he used to have. I wouldn't bet on it but might lean slightly towards the much older Ortiz for those reasons.
Whereas I hate trilogies where one guy won both the first, it might not be a bad idea. Neither guy really has anywhere to go. Probably Wilder makes it 3.
Ortiz was as old in the first fight as Wilder is now, then theres all the suspicion of him of lying about his age and being possibly quite a bit older than he claims. Wilder might have declined too, but he'd likely finish Ortiz faster than ever if they fought now.
Wilder would win again. Ortiz is officially 46 and has fought a total of 106 seconds in the last 3 years. Wilder maybe shot but Ortiz is likely far more shot given his age and inactivity. I honestly along with everyone else thought he was retired.
Just be glad they actually fought close to their respective primes and not now. Other heavyweights and their promotors should take note.
