I'd love to see Wlad hugging like this against Lewis, Bowe or Holyfield. They would've punished the living shiit out of him. Povetkin's too much of a nice guy to do anything, other boxers would've thrown an illegal shot/haymaker while in that clinch.

Not to mention the pre-fight bullshiit Fury had to go through with him. Wlad's such a fake nice guy.

The point of an effective clinch is to lock the arms off so you can't punch.

Note Holyfield didn't too well against Ruiz jab and grab

 

Watch the video towards the end. He abused it to the point of cheating. Other HWs simply wouldn't let him get away with that. It's good Fury's smart enough to realise this fraud's cheating tactics and called him out for it.

 

Fury used the same tactics against Wilder in the second and the third fight, lol. I guess jab, right hand and grab was not that bad of a move after all.

 

He's not good at all, the moment Wlad appeared, the entire heavyweight division started to suck hard, and the moment he left it became magically better. His timing was spot on, what a lucky guy.

 

I think it also highlighted a lack of dimension in Povetkin's game but, to be fair, he shouldn't have had to deal with the wall of fouling he was met with.

The ref was a disgrace.

Lewis, Bowe and Holyfield would have presented deterrents, in spite of the poor refereeing.

But, in any event, Wlad should have been DQ'd.

Clinching is part of boxing, especially with a tall man against a shorter man. Lennox used the exact same tactics against Tyson, go and watch it again, they had the same coach instructing them too. Ali clinched whenever Frazier got inside in Ali-Frazier 2. John Ruiz did it in every fight post Tua. Jack Johnson did it constantly. Tyson Fury does it all the time too.
