Sometimes a fighter is just a stylistic foil for a much better fighter.

Ali IMO is the greatest heavyweight who ever lived but for some reason Norton was just kryptonite for him. I think it’s because if you could back Kenny up he became a nonentity and post exile Ali didn’t have the pop to back him up. Plus there was something about Kenny’s offbeat kind of herky jerky style (at least to my eyes) that Ali just never could get a handle on.

I sincerely believe Prime Lewis with Emmanuel Steward in his corner is a match for current version of Usyk. A Split Decision win can be argued for either boxer.

Quarry was undoubtedly a tough guy, but he doesn't seem like an awesome counterpuncher to me.

Max Schmeling lost to a light heavy by ko, struggled with Hamas but then defeated the GOAT...

Norton whooped Quarry's ass. Yes, he did get buzzed a couple times, but aside from those moments, he controlled the fight.

Ken Norton was a very good fighter. It always tickles me whenever some refer to him as having a "glass jaw" Garcia caught him flush when Ken was still a little green and Foreman,Shavers and Cooney were three of the hardest hitting heavyweights ever. Ken gave Muhammad Ali three very tough fights, beating him once. And when he was past prime fought a prime Larry Holmes to a standstill, only losing by a very close decision.

    Hi Barrf.
You are correct of course, but you must know that Quarry was a shell of his former self, his best days long gone, this was a pitiful fight, if it can be called as such, one of the very few fights where I looked away shaking my head, and gave me pause for thought on whether boxing was a sport, and should I continue as a supporter, a stain on all involved.
    stay safe buddy, chat soon.
    Mike.

The fact he made it close is a testament to Ali's greatness, if you think about it.

Very close fight, either way by a hair or a draw.

Ken was def. robbed in the rubber vs Ali.

If Norton was afforded just a tiny % of the judging sway that Ali received against Ken himself, Norton would’ve got the nod over Holmes.

So, robbed in 76 and given absolutely no benefit of any doubt in 78.

Based on just those two fights, Norton had every right to consider himself to be either extremely unlucky or royally screwed.
