    Hi Guys.
It was a Tuesday, a never to be forgotten Tuesday, normally it's just the day after Monday, you were getting accustomed to work after the weekend, unlike the day before, your head is a little more clearer, after the fun and frolics of Sat and Sun, I bounced out of bed with a eagerness for the days work that is not normally there, I was whistling on the very early 4am bus to work, unlike most days when I try to put my head on the glass window and try to get a few more precious minutes sleep, I even had the right money ready for the conductor, soon to be a bygone relic on British busses, got to work and sorted out a smock that almost fitted me, and didn't mind when the only wellingtons left were 2 sizes too big, despite the fact I would have a sore ankle at the end of the shift, once in my workplace I didn't write down my preferred time for my only break, back in them days you only had 1 slot for your food and drink, and it was only 30 minutes, the unions would soon see to that in the not too distant future, one of my workmates didn't turn up this day, a very unreliable soul, always claiming a migraine, or backache, none of which the boss could disprove, so I had to do my work and his work, all for the same money, I didn't mind on this particular day, because after work around 11-30am I was off to a small gym in London's carnaby street to see Jose Napoles work out !!!!!.
Because it was a weekday and pretty early there wasn't many observers , about 15 of us, noticeable amongst us was the bald guy with the annoying cough, suffice to say I kept well away, didn't want any distractions for the next couple of hours, the advert said he would begin his session at midday, he was late, did we care, not a jot, then all of a sudden there was a buzz, whispers cascaded down from the row near the changing rooms, he was on his way.
First impression was his size, he looked small for a WW, plus he was wearing like a plastic over coating, that covered him from neck to calf, finished in a rather glaring silver, he appeared to have small feet as well, I won't bore you with the preamble of his workout, let's skip to the sparring, he had bought 3 partners from Mexico, all swarthy and rough looking, one with a huge scar running down his cheek from eyebrow to chin, on the flip side he wore a constant grin during the pummeling he was about to receive from his boss, his motion reminded me of a more polished version of Palomino, he would appear to be sleepwalking at times, then unleash the most vicious of left hooks to both body and head, a curious aspect would be the sweat ( and there were lots of it ) would form damp patches on the canvas like no other, of course we would learn much later that Jose liked his alcohol, and one can only assume this was the displacement of the liquid, all 3 were knocked down at some stage over their 4 round engagement, normally in the latter stages, it was as if Napoles was saying and proving who was the guvnor, scarface also had his nose broken, we heard before we left, Napoles also had this rather uncouth habit of spitting n to the canvas every few minutes or so ( he didn't where a gumshield ) so after all the sparing was over the floor was an unidentified sight, after he was done with battering his partners, he peeled off the suit, and I swear a couple of pints of moisture came with it, in summary he was a special fighter to see, his unhurried but brutal ( at times ) sparring was a sight to behold, he stuck me as a rather insullar man, devoid of any manners, barking out instructions in Spanish to his team, who all looked terrified, he left in a hurry, with no acknowledgment to the attending onlookers, we all piled out on to the pavement knowing we had seen a great fighter, and all the richer for it.
@JohnThomas1 this was for you, hope you like it buddy.
    stay safe guys, chat soon.
    Mike.

I agree with you. Oscar looked ferocious but stiff. He lacked fluidity.

Agree about Joey. So smart and courageous. Technically brilliant. Great footwork and feinting. He's a textbook. He had everything but a big punch.

Equating Hearns with John Coltrane may be a stretch but Tommy did have a long reach.

He had that look of Latino pride. His fans were understandably crushed when Oscar De La Hoya busted him up,

Duran at his best and Locche for me
Different styles but two of the best feinters ive seen , something that seems to be a bit of a lost art when you watch boxing now, with exceptions.

Hagler at his best and De Jesus before the drugs were also super smooth boxer punchers.

    Mayweather

PBF's aggressively defensive and it's both fun and amazing

Money is all defense forward and so perfected I am not alone in saying he is the single greatest master of defense. The least any objectivity will allow is among the defense masters

TBE showed us Mayweather without the bells and whistles. He can simply walk down fools and hit them harder than they hit him ... is said fools is Connie McNuggets.

I am being a little bit tongue-in-cheek but the point of styles on display stands. He's faced every single type of fighter, displayed a few different versions of himself, and always performed.

Right now? Bam. Everything he does is fast, fluid, aggressive, relentless. Love watching his combination of technical boxing and aggression, that mix of Mexican pressure fighter with Loma's footwork and angles. Makes for both an exciting watch but also a technical watch -- some fights that are exciting to watch don't have much technical going on, you can watch them after having a few beers and not miss anything; Bam is exciting to watch but to appreciate what he's doing, ditch the beer for coffee, and re-watch the important rounds multiple times, making sure for some watches you're focusing more on his feet than his hands.

I'm a fan of Mayweather too. What do you think of Shakur Stevenson?
