Has Canelo ever legitimately beaten a top 10 P4P level fighter?

    Mayweather: got schooled

    Golovkin 1: clear Canelo loss

Golovkin 2: draw at best for Canelo

    Bivol: got schooled

Mosley, Cotto, Kovalev and Golovkin 3 were all past it and no longer P4P ranked, Charlo had rightly been removed.

Given he had four contested MD/SD decisions on top of this despite being an A-side fighter, why was Canelo ever ranked as P4P No.1 by the boxing media, let alone for 2.5 years?

Competition for the P4P top spot was pretty weak when Canelo was seen to be the number 1 P4P star for those couple years. Usyk and Crawford hadn't got their signature wins yet.

COVID delayed boxing to some extent too for a year and a half.

I mean P4P opinion is different to everyone, and this is coming from someone that isn't particularly a Canelo fan!

2nd Golovkin fight was close, but I'd definitely count that. Kovalev was coming off avenging the Alvarez loss and a stoppage win against Anthony Yarde, so he definitely wasn't as shot as people make out. Charlo should not have been at 168, but he avenged both of his losses and unified 154 in his fight before, so he was definitely top 10 after that. He definitely has a resume that is miles ahead of Crawford, even if you pick holes in it. When he beats Crawford, everyone will say it's not legit because Bud is 38 this month and is actually a welterweight.

Lol, no. It was a close fight, and at best you could argue a win for Lara based on his pitty patty shots.

3 loss Kovalev had a war with Yarde 9 weeks prior, almost getting stopped in the 8th round and agreed to a 185 lbs rehydration clause for the Canelo fight.

Although Crawford hasn't beaten elite opponents in his own right (though Spence technically counts), he's beaten some good ones and none of his wins have been controversial or involved too much deck stacking. He's also never lost or drawn, let alone been virtually shut out twice. He's more of an unknown quantity than Canelo, whose always proven at least somewhat lacking at the top level.

If Canelo beats Crawford without controversy it would be his best win imo.

I felt he beat Golovkin in the rematch

Cotto could reasonably Have been p4p not sure if he was on the list

Charlo could reasonably have been p4p if he wasn't on the list though he held many advantages

He also has wins over very good but not quite p4p guys like Trout and Lara (that was very close and arguably for Lara) and some faded but still pretty good opponents like Kovalev

His resume can be picked at like anyone's but fighting Mayweather, undefeated Golovkin, Lara, Trout, Cotto, Jacobs are all solid names and opponents. He also has a ton of fights and has been relatively active while being ranked highly p4p. There is a lot you can criticize Alvarez for but I think he has fought good opposition and also in comparison to some of his other p4p peers

Of course he quite clearly has. He beat Golovkin or lil g as Andre Ward called him at his peak. Personally I scored all 3 fights in favour of Canelo over Golovkin.

I don’t care to defend Canelo but his 2nd fight against GGG was a legit win. The scoring was fair, the controversy from the 1st fight didn’t carry over. 7-5 Canelo was an acceptable score for the 2nd fight.

Those names were no more accomplished than Crawford and Usyk at the time. Loma was never p4p #1 if you ask me.
