Shishkin did eat some flush shots at short range (mostly when Iglesias attacked quickly on clinch breaks) and his cheeks below his eyes are badly puffed up...but honestly what did that ref think he was saving him from? Shishkin's gloves were up. He wasn't in danger of going down or anything, nor do I think he necessarily would have in another four rounds and change. Insult to his chin to have a stoppage loss on his record.

    Yeah.... okay.

The only thing taking a beating was his gloves.

Shishkin was hurt but he's crazy tough and dug really deep to try and weather the storm and Iglesias had thrown a ton of leather in that round trying to get the finish and had the ref not dived it in to wave it off and Shishkin survived it might have come back to haunt Iglesias. I'm not saying Shishkin would've survived but by the same token I'm not sure he wouldn't have either because he'd survived the worst of it so the ref should've let it go a bit longer and given him that chance.

Iglesias has a bit of weird, awkward style. He has a nasty right hook and right uppercut in addition to that big southpaw left and the way he throws them and in combination is difficult to read. I predict the winner of Clenelo and Crawford won't go anywhere near him

Exactly, I made that point over on Twitter a few seconds ago. The ref knew that was a possibility, so he took zero chances of finding out.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Shishkin take that much punishment before, he was getting pounded all night.

Canadian ref. Whilst, as said, Shishkin had been hurt in that round and was in trouble he appeared to have weathered the worst of the storm and recovered somewhat. Sure he had to dig deep and display a hell of a beard to weather it but as such I think he deserved the opportunity to go out on his shield if indeed he was gonna go out. The storm wasn't over but I'm not sure Shishkin's resistance was going to give out before Iglesias' energy bar did given how many punches Iglesias had thrown trying to secure the finish.
