He always sounded dense even back in 2008 lol. But I agree, this has trouble written all over it.

Defo disagree, he was never a great talker but he is much worse than he when he fought like groves

Punch drunk? Nah, that’s just classic Chunky — he’s always sounded like that. I’m uploading the Ringside interview with Groves, still the best episode ever in my book.

James has always been James: no real schooling, a bigger mouth, and emotionally stunted from the moment he won the gold medal and his talent found fame. No wonder his mum’s retired happily in Cyprus while he’s the one talking about a comeback. Doubt he even realises he stiffed the taxman for nearly 400k — and now he’s the one left holding the bag.

Another good one. Still don’t get why Froch was shitting his kecks in all the build up. Understand him being tentative and petrified to unload in the fight but I still don’t get the build up.

Froch never had that inner belief in himself the way Groves did. Not sure why, but I remember him even admitting it in the past — saying he doubted himself in the Taylor fight and gave Jermain too much respect early on. Groves always had that self-belief, and Booth only reinforced it, same way he did with Haye. I still think if he’d stayed with Booth, he’d have beaten Froch. Going his own way with Paddy — who’s a solid trainer but really more of a No.2 (as shown when he was in Lamon Brewster’s camp) — didn’t serve him as well.

Ironically, Froch has that belief now, but at almost a delusional level — the kind of mindset a lot of elite athletes end up needing to reach the top. The second Groves fight was huge for him, especially with how it ended. Maybe the sports psychologist he was seeing helped, and maybe even Fast Car gassing him up played a role too.

That said, Carl was a warrior. The Taylor fight, the Bute fight, Pascal, both Kessler scraps — such a strong career. But I’ve always believed Chunky would’ve beaten him too if Froch hadn’t vacated and retired after the second Groves fight.

Wish they’d bring Ringside back too — even a DAZN version. Those shows added so much to the build-up and gave real insight you just don’t get now. Instead, we’re stuck with Matchroom’s in-house fluff dressed up as analysis.

DeGale and Froch two of the biggest knobs in boxing and although I like groves during his career he is a pleb now also and sounds stoned all the time for some reason

He’d have won. Booth would have had him picking shots, Groves was basically his own boss and went too hung ho. I don’t think Paddy had the total respect from him. I think Groves would have timed him all night on the back foot. Froch would have been clueless I think. Especially the way Froch was that night, scared of the speed and power even before the kd.

    Ringside was great wasn’t it.

Fair play to Froch. He was a warrior got the very best out of himself. Cheered for him in the Taylor fight, the Dirrell fight left a bad taste and by the time Groves fight came around I was itching for him to get knocked out. Had what was a lot of money for me at the time for Groves to do him as well. Couldn’t believe the foregone conclusion talk, everyone thought he shouldn’t even be in the ring with him.

Think with Froch he probably knew often he was up against better technical fighters, what Froch had was an incredible chin, durability to turn the pressure fighting up the later a fight went, it's a draining style as you know top level. Froch I have nothing but respect for, happy to fight anyone and got to the top without any need to cherry pick opponents.

Ringside at peak was a must watch for boxing fans, some of the fighter segments where they trained etc were brilliant.

Talking Ringside I remember pre Froch-Bute, Froch was the betting underdog Johnny Nelson called how it would play out Bute tendency to be upright and can be caught they showed Bute who was rated as a beast at the time getting caught, clean flush and staggered was a fight in Canada.

Some of the head to heads with fighters in studio were fantastic, good promotion, good TV, shame it was cancelled.
