Meanwhile people are still salty about RJJ being robbed in the olympics. "But it was the official decision!"
GGG won all three. I recall we had a discussion about the third fight : you have to cut the sound and watch it muted. GGG controlled the fight with his jab.
Not even I think GGG won the third one. He'd have needed Adelaide Byrd to judge it for him. I will say that he could have won the third one if he'd stepped on the gas a bit earlier, though.
I thought Gologvkin won the first two fights pretty clearly, but especially the first. I'd have to look back but I thought GGG won 9-3.
Yep, if we didn't figure that out by then, i guess we never would. I even think GGG figured that out. So why kill yourself if no matter what you do, outside of a KO you don't get the win.
I agree. Not that Canelo did bad, it's just that GGG clearly won the fight, and even pulled out the 2nd one as well.
It was supprising that the judges scored it fairly. Maybe if GGG knew it was going to judged faily he might have tried harder. He always needed a KO to win it seems.
It's Golovkin's fault. He's a better boxer than Canelo so he wanted to go back to his boxing roots. That's why the new trainer. Nothing wrong with that except for somehow nobody seemed to notice how freaking slow he had become. Very hard to outbox a guy when that guy holds a very significant speed edge. In my opinion he needed to attack Canelo's cardio, by moving in close and making him work all the time in a slugfest right in the trenches. Wrestle him, lean on him, short punches to the body and head. Don't let him rest. Canelo loves slow fights where he can dictate the pace, and Golovkin gave him one. Canelo's cardio is not great because his knees are not allowing him to do enough roadwork in my opinion.
I wanted to GGG get more physical as well, and put more power on his shots. In the last 4 rounds Canelo seemed vulnerable when GGG turned up the heat. He kind of had the Canelo tired face. If GGG stepped on the gas more and hurt Canelo then he might have got a draw. At least the judges scored it fairly that time.If they would have scored the other 2 fairly, then GGG would have won the first two. Over all though, I'm glad they had the trilogy.
They robbed GGG of the wins he gained in the first two fights. Then waited for him to become ancient to finally get a legitimate win over him, which was not needed because GGG was 2-0 up at that point.
I agree, if GGG got the deserved wins, Canelo could have just went up to 168lbs and become undisputed anyway.
This is revisionist. After fight 2 GGG went off the rails a bit. Demanded a fight 3 be held at MSG and I believe wanted more control over judge selection (again) even though the judge he okayed for fight 2 (who had him winning fight 1) had him losing fight 2. GGG 1 / DRAW / Canelo 3
