A good chance to ask this question as a thread would be a waste of space.
Does anyone know why Braddock took over Two Years before fighting again (Louis)? Why the break? Obviously he needed some big paydays if the movie portrayed his personal situation correctly.

Well, the Schmeling-Louis fight was something like an Eliminator for Braddock´s title, Schmeling won and so was the number one challenger for the title. But nobody wanted the title to go to Germany. There was a fight made for, I think september, '37 but Braddock pulled out due to an injury, if he really had one or not is up to speculation. Then there were negotiations between Braddock´s camp and the camps of Schmeling and Louis which blocked any title match. The outcome is known I think.

I like Braddock. I think he has a lot more reach and is more durable. Quarry winning by knockout would be a real stretch. Even past his best, Braddock was good enough to edge Farr, who did not have Quarry's punch but was a better boxer.

The version that beat Mac Foster or Ron Lyle I d have to pick to win. Those guys were twice as strong and powerful as Braddock.

Quarry spent his career fighting top heavyweights. Braddock spent his pre-title career fighting light-heavies and mediocre heavyweights. Ellis was faster and more mobile than Jim ever thought about being. Braddock and Quarry were both tough as nails. Both could punch, but I just don''t see a way for Jim to beat Jerry either by decision or kayo.

I'm not sure, I like Quarry and he did fight in boxings most brutal decade in history but,, of the 11 best fighters he fought counting rematches,,Machen, Patterson ,Ellis, Mathis, Frazier, Chuvalo, Ali, Lyle, Shavers, Norton, and Mac Foster he was 5-7-1 with 2 ko's .
I think Braddock is around the Machen, Patterson, Ellis level so a win for Quarry is not out of the question but it's certainly not a lock.
Closer to 50/50 and I might actually favor the version of Jimmy that beat Baer. A very good and even fantasy matchup

You make a respectable case, but I think the best Braddock is still just too much of a plodder to be able to keep up with the best Quarry. I agree that it would be a good match.
