I think we can all agree neither fought Canelo at his best. Ideally Canelo's prime was 2016-2021 or so. And from 160-168. The version Floyd fought had to cut 2 extra pounds Canelo wasn't a P4P level fighter at 154 (or 152 where he had to cut) as seen him arguably losing to Lara a fight later despite the cooked scorecard he barely scraped by Trout before Floyd, and most had Trout winning 4-5 rounds at least his resume at that point was very thin despite 40 fights everyone knows he barely fought live bodies in 2013 The version Bud fought hadn't stopped anyone in 4 years couldn't stop the likes of Ryder, Berlanda and Munguia who all got KOd bad within 1-2 fights of the Canelo fight had an atrocious sparring match against Scull the fight before
By default you would have to give it to Crawford just because Canelo was more experienced. But one could very easily argue that maybe Canelo just can't beat that style. If you put him in there with a boxer who can box but not at an elite level (Plant, Saunders), Canelo can win. But if you put him in there with an elite level boxer (Bivol, Mayweather, Crawford), Canelo has proven even with experience he can't beat that style. So whether Canelo was more experienced or not, he just can't beat that style. So then it comes down to physical prime. Canelo was obviously a better athlete when he faced Floyd. His hands were faster. He actually jabbed and threw combinations. But at the same time, Floyd did fight Canelo at a catchweight while Bud fought him at his weight with no clauses. It's a tough one because I understand both sides.
I'd be tempted to say Crawford but Canelo back then was fresher and I don't think he improved as much as people think, he just got bigger
I know it will get heat but Im going to say Bud. Ya he might be slightly on the physical decline, but not enough to compensate that he was a bigger, stronger, more powerful, more experienced and more skilled fighter than the young drained one Floyd fought. I think the Canelo Bud fought would manhandle the Canelo that Floyd fought
Canelo can handle regular elite boxers but he can’t handle elite boxers that can physically stand their ground against him. He could deal with Plant, BJS and Lara because he could walk through 3 arm punches with a high guard and rock / have his guy backing up with a big hook to stay leading on the cards, but it didn’t work against Floyd, Bivol and Crawford because they could stand their ground and even force Canelo to back off in close exchanges ON TOP of outboxing him at range.
Bud. And Bud didn't weight drain him like Floyd's punk ass did. This is a sad day for the Floydasexuals. Both Bivol and Crawford outdid Floyd's best win.
Canelo's defense got way better after the Floyd fight. His combination punching improved too but particularly on the counter he was more deadly years after Floyd. He was very hittable back then and didn't punish misses as much. I mean watch the Trout fight months before. Trout basically matched him in power punches and outlanded him overall and Trout wasn't even a puncher.
Bud could've easily asked for a catchweight or rehydration clause but he didn't ask for any conscessions.
LOL what? Canelo was the A side. Bud was chasing the fight. Canelo never even wanted it and said it was a lose lose for him. Under no circumstances could Bud have called for a catchweight or rehydration much like Charlo couldn't. Bud is a bigger name than Charlo but he never could have demanded that the fight simply wouldn't have happened. Floyd was the A side when he fought Canelo too and was doing him a favor much like Canelo did for Bud.
