I'm certain. Boxing's weight divisions need to be reduced.

Seeing Crawford's results today, I'm convinced. Boxing no longer needs so many weight classes. A great fighter, with preparation time and talent, can handle more than two weight classes without a problem. If we reduce the number of weight classes and belts, we'll see more exciting matches. We don't need more than 18 weight classes.

1000% agree with you. In addition having all these bogus weight divisions prevents the best from fighting the best. When you have less divisions the best have no choice but to fight each other and they can't hide behind the weight division.

Yes, exactly. The theory of weight classes has been challenged time and time again. Weight classes are overrated

154 doesn't need to exist, those guys can either cut down to 147 or move up to 160. Everyone at 168 can just cut down to 160 like Janibek does or go to 175. Cruiserweight should be abolished. Those are just heavyweights in disguise and if they're so scared of super heavyweights they can just cut down to light heavyweight. 140 pound division is also useless, not to mention all those tiny weight classes

They were never needed, organizations make more money with more weight classes.

Nah, not really. Crawford is unique in that he can handle insane weight cuts while still performing at a high level. Most fighters of Crawford's build simply cannot drain themselves down to 140. Bud can though, so when he moves up it sounds better than it really is.

I will say that some divisions like 108 and 115 don't need to exist, though.

Based on what evidence? Faded Canelo who is blown up superwelter himself? Who ducked legit contenders at SMW and survived only because of cherrypicks for the past few years?

I think they can just remove the “junior / super” bs and merge CW with HW.

    Disagree.

Bud is an outlier, all time great. For mere mortals, weight/size does matter. What we need to get rid of are all these belts and just have one true champ for each weight class.

Crawford also has wrestling experience. Those guys take weight cutting to a level boxing has seldom seen.

The title of multi-weight champion should only be for talented fighters like Crawford. That's why weight classes should be reduced, so achieving a higher weight class has meaning. We don't need the ridiculousness of everyone being a multi-weight champion.

Definitely true. Though I honestly do think he is an abnormality. The fact a guy who can go against a physical tank like Canelo was, at one point, coming in at 135lbs whilst already fully grown is just mind boggling to me.

What Crawford did is not something that can be done by most. He made it look like it was easy, but the fact he got so much heat and doubt for jumping up 2/3 weight classes (which is 21lbs) just proves that you won't see a great deal of fighters doing it throughout history. Most recently look at Kell Brook jumping up to fight GGG.....or Amir Khan jumping up to fight Canelo Alvarez...... or Mikey Garcia jumping up to fight Errol Spence Jr.

Not everyone can do what Crawford did. Especially while taking multiple fights within a calendar year, because many stressed the fact that Crawford fighting once a year, will effect his output.

I'm fight with lessening the amount of world titles in each division, but the man reason for boxing going from the original 8 divisions to the 17 we currently have is because having a division that can put someone who weight 148lbs up against someone who weighs 160lbs regularly truly gives a huge advantage to the larger fighter draining to make weight vs the guy bulking up to come into the division. More times than not, the smaller guy will be outclassed and less successful.

100% true. Just invent the ufc weight divisions!
    Heavyweight 205 till open
    LHW 185 till 205
    MW 170 till 185
    WelterW 155 till 170
    LW 145 till 155
    FW 135 till 145
    LFW 125 till 135
    And Airweight below 125

I agree with everything, but the Cruiserweight part. I think its a solid division and should stay, but maybe bring it down to 190.

    105
    112
    118
    126
    135
    147
    160
    175
    190
    190+

10 divisions, plenty of room for everyone. And concessions can be made with 105 and 190+
