It wasn't a close fight. I had it 9-3. That's giving Canelo the first round, which easily could have went to Bud.

There was clearly 2 different classes of fighters in there.

I'm old enough to remember when Crawford was supposed to be too small a weak to handle the rough and tumble Jeff Horn, let alone the other champs at Welterweight.

Turns out skill has something to do with boxing. Bud should retire the GOAT.

Judges prefer head shots to body shots

It got too late for me last night, so I got up this morning and watched the fight with the sound off and without knowing who won. I haven't read any of the RBR commentary yet, so I'm interested to see how folks scored this. Here's my scorecard:

    Alvarez-Crawford
    Rd 1: 10-9 (close)
    Rd 2: 9-10
    Rd 3: 9-10
    Rd 4: 9-10 (close)
    Rd 5: 10-9
    Rd 6: 9-10
    Rd 7: 9-10 (close)
    Rd 8: 10-9 (close)
    Rd 9: 10-9 (close)
    Rd 10: 9-10
    Rd 11: 9-10
    Rd 12: 10-9 (close)
    ------------------
    Total: 113-115 Crawford winner

I felt my scoring was maybe a little generous to Canelo--I saw 6 fairly close rounds and gave Canelo 4 of them. I liked Canelo's harder punches, but Crawford looked sharper overall and was outlanding Canelo by a wide margin. Very fair cards from the judges.

The reason why Canelo was a heavy favorite is because he always gets favorable scoring. Bivol won 8 rnds easily and it was 115-113 on the judge’s card. GGG beat him and lost on card.

I had it 116 - 112 Crawford. So a close fight. When score was read I did not feel safe until they said Crawford.

Okay, well I do. It was a close fight and plenty of rounds had very little happening with Canelo landing the bigger shots and backing up Crawford. I don't really have a problem with Crawford winning but I don't think he did enough personally.

In looking at my scorecard again, I noticed that I saw only one clear round for Canelo (Round 5), whereas I saw 5 clear rounds for Crawford. So even though I had the fight close, I think it's pretty hard to argue for a Canelo victory. (I guess if I gave Canelo every "close" round I could score it 7-5 Canelo, though that feels dishonest. But judges have done that in the past for him, so in this case I was impressed by the fairness of the cards.)

I just thought I'd watch the first round again to see if my initial thoughts were correct, again, how the hell did anybody score that round for Crawford?

Not the GOAT but he should retire on top. Great performance.

I wonder if this one looked a little different ringside? I'd agree that 11 and 12 (and 6) were Crawford's clearest rounds.

On broadcast the only round I thought Alvarez clearly won was round 5.

Agreed John and here's a post i made prior to the fight picking Crawford to win based on what you pointed out so it's no like i'm just saying this with hindsight.
