RIP Ricky Hatton

We don't know the cause of death but it's likely to have been related to Ricky's state of mind. If he'd been a footballer he'd have had the PFA, agents, former players, possibly his old clubs, a whole network of support. Once they've retired boxers have nothing. There has to be some form of organisation established to help with the challenges of retirement.

 

It's true. The only proper stars after Hatton were Fury, AJ and Khan. There was a little run where Khan was carrying the sport on his shoulders in the UK.

Its a bit sad Ricky's death coming straight after a superfight. I wonder if he had been up all night for it.

 

Only cause he was pushed in the faces of everyone, he was manufactured product, Even when he was hadn't done nothing as a pro. he in the media ahead of current uk world champions. Whereas the real best fighter of the era Froch was under the radar.

 

Yeah had Froch got the status he deserved earlier we might have got the Calazghe fight

 

Absolutely sickened when I heard the news today and still cannot believe it hours later.

RIP Ricky and thanks for the many great memories.

I coach and footy team of u11s.

We had a presentation end of May, one of the dads asked me to play over 35s league and was chatty during the presentation.

Six days later he hung himself.

Left the lad a note (not been given to him yet) and the poor kid hasn't been told how it happened.

I've been through a couple of dark times and it has crossed my mind.

Look after each other lads.

 

I never met Hatton, nor did I attend his fights, weird day today, genuinely feel like a pals gone. If only money & adulation was enough. Poor Ricky.

 

He certainly felt those losses but I don't believe it was quite that simple.

 

Utter tragedy..

I don't know what to do... I've been there a couple of times...

My children lost their mom who was at the time my ex wife to suicide a year ago aged 40, as you can imagine it hit my children, myself, as we were on good terms, and my new wife who was good friends with my ex, it hit us all really hard and a year later we're no wiser as to why.

This morning after the Canelo fight we went to a car boot sale selling cakes and bracelets for a mental health and suicide awareness charity.. We did really well, and had a few sad stories told to us, one by a Falklands veteran who's story was harrowing.. The amount of middle aged guys who came and put a few quid in, who didn't wanna talk but through their faces you can see they've had some tough times.

I guess my families story, and what may have happened with Ricky shows that you don't know what people are battling be it a millionaire sports star or a middle aged mom off an estate.. Life's hard out there for a lot of people. If you have your family health and sanity you're doing well.

I love this forum, and I love this thread. I’ve never felt like taking my life but have had some dark times; as said by others , speak to anyone if you’re struggling. Personally i would outpour to a stranger as that would be easier for me, but find whatever works

RIP Ricky Hatton. Tragic and even sadder when he was only 3 weeks out from his birthday.

I haven't posted on ESB for years but back in the day I was a very active member. Those were the days when Ricky Hatton was a major topic of conversation. Being only a few years younger than Ricky I'm truly saddened by his death. Boxing was and mostly and still is a niche sport, but Ricky made it mainstream. He actually transcended his talent with sheer grit and guts to beat Tszyu, the beautiful body punch thay stopped Castillo, and giving prime Mayweather a problem to solve for several rounds. Ricky was a special fighter and the prototype for what future British fighters always wanted to emulate, the credibility, the popularity, the cultural cache...but they never could quite match the Hitman.
