A man that knows his boxing.

We have been lucky to be around the last 10 years watching 3 of the all time greats in boxing - Usyk, Inoue and Crawford.

    Likewise

Yup, Inoue belongs in that conversation alongside Usyk and Bud. And just like Crawford, “The Monster” got stuck in promoter limbo — mad to think he was fighting on Facebook Live the same weekend Crawford was headlining on Netflix. No coincidence he was another one under Arum and Top Rank.

Odd, isn’t it? The so-called “unmarketable” ones have a habit of becoming all-time greats. I don’t know what to make of that.

No worries, mate. Just calling it how I see it.

Actually, I’m half-expecting Matchroom Mitch to rise up like the Undertaker any minute now and tell me Joshua’s better than Usyk, Bud and Inoue combined — armed with spreadsheets and standard deviation curves to ‘prove’ it, with Brixton Bomber tagging along like Hearn and Smith.

Mostly debatable and completely irrelevant when it comes to boxing though.

Boxing skill has mostly been lost through fighters being inactive. Crawford and Usyk are probably the most skilled now.

Look back at when fighters were fighting much more regularly, the skill and stamina levels were better. Look at the 70s and 80s, the strength in depth in each division was much higher.

the most skilled fighters are who? Inoue, Usyk, Crawford and Canelo ? Bivol? The average age is like 36.
Better than Benitez, Duran, Hearns, Marcel, Arguello, Holmes, Leonard, Hagler?

I’m not sure I’d even favour Crawford over say, Palomino, who is about the 5th best welter of his era…

you didn't even watch them, you weren't around in that era so how do you know good it actually was, you just say those names because everyone who was alive in that time has nostalgia and it was 'their era' and those are 'big names' who we hear a lot so you assume that makes them the best ever.

Correct there are still numerous track and field world records that have stood since the 1980s. There are exceptions to every 'rule' and that includes boxing.

I watched all their fights and all of Crawford big fights so why can’t I compare them ?
It’s not nostalgia, the skill level was better then and there were more good fighters.
Look at welterweight, where Crawford would have probably stayed in that era, you had Benitez Leonard Hearns Palomino and Duran all fighting around the same time, how does today compare to that ? Romero and Barrios, a guy who can’t even beat a 46 year old Pacquiao?

there is like 7, most have gone, you're always gonna have some that stand, but most have gone.
And look at the records that are more relevant to boxing:
    100m & 200m: this century,
    Marathon running: this century
    800m: this century
    Shot put: this century

These shows explosiveness, strength, and stamina, all have got better into the 21st century, and there is loads more i could chose too.

They really won’t, Crawford is the only name there that will be even remembered, the rest are more or less forgotten about even now..

yes past his prime he did, just like Crawford would be losing now if he was fighting a prime Duran or Hagler instead of an also quite old and past it Canelo

You also can’t compare athletics or swimming with boxing, because boxing is primarily skill based, like football. Maradona was just as good as Messi, but defenders were allowed to try to break him in half in Maradona or Pele’s era.

Boxers fight when they feel like it now. Part timers most of them. Nothing like the regularity of boxers in the days when men were real men.
