Not even sure if I would favour Toney over Canelo.

Nahh Canelo is made to order for Toney. To beat Toney you need fast feet and movement and that just isn't Canelo's style. On the inside, Toney is just all around better defensively, was better at counter punching, had better stamina, and was also just way busier. Had they fought in their prime, Toney would have won a clear 12-round decision and head straight to Burger King afterwards.

Canelo doesn’t fight in the pocket and Toney literally walked at people. I see Canelo clipping Toney with right hands and step-in left hooks to the body at range and not letting him work on the inside. Toney doesn’t have the feet to dictate the range the way Crawford did.

This assumes Toney can't outjab Canelo and Toneys superior reflexes and speed doesn’t give Canelo fits. I don't that's a good matchup for Canelo

Toney won't need to walk at Canelo though, cuz as you said Canelo don't fight in the inside. He's gonna try to press Toney just like he does with all his other opponents and that ain't gonna work as Toney's gonna counter him all night just like Floyd, only this time he's bigger than Canelo and has a longer reach.

How exactly is Toney gonna counter him? Mayweather didn’t stay and bang in the pocket against Canelo like Toney does, he moved and walked Canelo into counters before circling out and moving away when Canelo threw back. That’s not how Toney works. He actually works in a narrower range than even Canelo as Canelo usually works between mid / long range and tries to avoid fighting in the pocket.

This would be close, I don’t see much distinction between them as far as counter-punching and defense goes. Toney is more talented but Canelo is a lot more consistent.

You are right!!! All through his career Toney was known for getting hit with right hands. Rolling and countering right hands was a signature weakness in his game.
