At welterweight I’m pretty confident that a mid 20’s aged Leonard who beat Benitez, Duran and Hearns in procession would defeat Terence Crawford. People are going on about how Crawford was “ bigger.” He wasn’t bigger. They’re both 5’9” and Crawford started his career at lightweight . He didn’t ascend to welter until he was 30 years old. About the only thing Crawford had was reach in the arms. But would that really make a difference against the man who overcame the reach and power of Tommy freakin’ Hearns ?

At 147 a mid 20’s aged Leonard who beat Benitez, Duran and Hearns in procession would have my confidence to win. People are going on about how Crawford was “ bigger. “ he wasn’t. Both men are 5’9” and Ray Leonard was a career welterweight whereas Crawford began his career as a lightweight and didn’t ascend to 147 until he was 30. The only thing he had over Leonard is arm length. But is that really an advantage against the guy who overcame the reach of Tommy freakin Hearns ?

Look, Terence Crawford is a truly great fighter. He’s won all of his pro fights and due to modern training and his body frame has managed to jump weight classes very effectively and stay sharp in old age. But I don’t know if he’s ever truly beaten an “ elite “ fighter of ONE weight class except Canelo who himself was a weight jumper and a passed prime one at that. Still an awesome win but we need to do some more contemplating before making bold picks like this.

    Hi Buddy.
Quite right, Crawford fought a good smart fight, he kept his cool, and soundly ( for me ) outpointed the rather plodding Canelo, who clearly is not the fighter he was years ago, frankly it didn't live up to the hype, had it not been these two, with their marque names, it would be seen as a pretty good undercard fight, as for would Crawford beat Leonard, well no ! imo, Ray is a bonafide all time great, I would venture he is in everybody's top 5 could even be top 3, so to compare Crawford to him is well pretty audacious, if and when ( because he hasn't yet) he posts wins over the likes of , Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Benitez, Kalule, maybe just maybe, he could be compared to Leonard, until then he is a very special boxer, of immense talent.
stay safe mr. magoo, chat soon buddy.
    Mike.
