GGG. His resume is thin? Not his fault, MW was empty and people were ducking. Didn’t move up? Not his fault, people were ducking him there as well. He lost to Canelo? He didn’t actually, just got robbed 3 times. Its always somebody else’s fault when he drops the ball.

Roberto Duran. He is a grown-ass man that is a consummate professional at the highest level in one of the most competitive sports ever, he doesn’t get to say “sorry guys I’m just lazy and fat” then use that as an excuse as to why Leonard humiliated him in the rematch.

James Toney. I think people should simply bite their tongue and accept that the dude just wasn’t as good as his talent should have made him.

I do think he won the first fight but he definitely lost the 2 rematches. Weight excuses just irk me, if you're such lazy and unprofessional **** that you are affected by your weight im not gonna feel bad for, in fact I begin to dislike you somewhat

Duran's lack of preparation for the rematch with Leonard isn't an excuse, it's a fact.
Of course, we can also dismiss these as excuses and assume that Duran wasn't as good as Kirklaing Lang, Toney wasn't as good as Montell Griffin, and Glenn Johnson and Buster Douglas would always knock out Roy Jones and Mike Tyson, and then find excuses for all of them, why their resumes were so much worse than the people they knocked out, meaning they were theoretically better.

Boxing isn’t just about what you do in the ring, what you do leading up to that moment matters just as much, we can sit down and talk about what would have happened under different circumstances all night but if the said boxer is in his prime and doesn’t suffer from anything out of his control EVERYTHING that happens is under his responsibility and deserves full criticism. Duran deserves full criticism if him partying like an animal was what cost him the fight. Toney deserves full credit if (for whatever the reason) he lost to Griffin in his prime. You can’t just act like these things didn’t happen because “you see they were actually better!!!” Clearly they weren’t. They were in their prime and had no reason to lose beyond their own incompetency.

That’s why I’ll never confidently pick Toney to beat GGG or Canelo or Duran to beat Mayweather. Only one side is guaranteed to come to the match fully ready.

Yeah hot and cold boxers get very overrated in h2h matchups, you never know which version is showing up so I go with the consistency more often than not

Imo consistency is one of the most important things to look for in a h2h match-up.

The only exception I make is if even the not at their best version of the fighter is still better than a good version of the consistent fighter.
