I personally don't think he makes the cut though.

Jack Dempsey, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Sonny Liston. Seems like perceived destroyers always get tons of excuses for their losses or career trajectory.

Yeah, Foreman and Liston are definitely topping the list.

It's not that he wasn't good enough, it's that he didn't fulfill his potential.

Freddie Roach knows a thing or two about about boxing, and he said Toney was the most talented fighter he's ever seen, but also the laziest fighter he's ever seen.

We're talking about two concepts. I have no problem betting on Douglas against every Tyson, or Laing against Duran, or Dirk Thadzi against Toney. It's a free choice.

    Tyson.

I've noticed more modern fans have moved away from excuses and towards ignoring facts they don't like. Who needs excuses when you don't need to acknowledge or address a problem at all?

For a while, Pacquiao fans were like this too. Just straight up ignored historical facts and irrefutable footage.

But Tyson fans are a unique level of delusion and apologetics. It's a shame because over the years, I have come to respect Tyson and see that he is actually a very mellow and humble guy. Even when he was younger, he wasn't quite the unhinged maniac people often made him out to be. He is far from perfect (who is?), but he could take a loss and gave several opponents credit. He's a scholar of boxing and respected his predecessors as well.

    Carlos Zarate and Wilfrredo Gomez.

Zarate....I dont know if he had a cold or not before the Gomez fight. We cant really tell by looking at the video. People tell me the sweat before the fight proves he had a cold but boxers usually work out before the fight, and I have been at a full Roberto Clemente Coliseum and while it has a nice air conditioner, it can get toasty with 10,000 people crammed in. I cant get any evidence that he had a cold nor evidence that he did not.

In Gomez's case, it was that he did not train for the Salvador Sanchez fight. That might well have been the case since He was very busy at the time. He owned a disco club that i loved passing by because #1 it was near the airport and I LOVED seeing those Delta L-1011, Pan Am DC-10, American DC-10, Mexicana Boeing 727, Iberia Boeing 747 etc on quiet, beach Saturdays (and besides , I might also spot a cute boy or "hot" girl in a bikini my age, even then I was bisexual hahaha!) and this disco was right in front of the airport and #2, this disco building was made like a spaceship, it was actually named the spaceship by us locals! and Gomez was also negociating his fights himself and flying to Don King's office in New York constantly. and he was sleeping supposedly with Puerto Rican acting legend Johanna Rosaly and with the Dominican legendary beauty queens creator Magaly Febles. It's said sometimes the three shared a bed together!

But what doesnt ring as an excuse is that he did not train hard. he was doing all that, so but it does not excuse the fact -if that was the case-that he was not going to the gym.

Besides, just like George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali n a rematch, as Ive said many times over and over: there is no way Gomez beats Salvador Sanchez, not even with a baseball bat on his hands. I love Wilfredo he is my favorite fighter , but the truth is the truth. Foreman in a rematch with Ali would not throw that many punches, so he would not get tired. And that would suit Ali because Ali's game was jabbing and dancing and Foreman would be playing Ali's game. Same with Gomez in a rematch with Sanchez. he'd dance and jab but that is not WIlfredo's game. He might last 15 doing that but Sanchez was better on the long run, with those lungs he had, and he had those long arms to out-jab Gomez in a boxing chess match.

If I had a penny for each time Ive heard excuses for those two, I;d be a billionaire now!

None by and large imo. This type of thing is mostly just an exercise to belligerently defecate on the fanbase of a fighter that you irrationally don't care for (and thus the fighter himself).

It's not exactly something that people usually undertake in any measurable or objective sense with a field of data to back it up, is it? (though plenty seem to act like their view on the matter is as factual as Newtonian Law rather than just a sackless, half-baked opinion formed from reading a few similarly daft posts on a forum).

That said, whoever takes it on as a serious fact-finding endeavour probably needs to closely reassess what they've done with their life and consider having a ***** extension. Lose-lose scenario really.

That's Tyson by a long shot. No one comes close.

For example, if Cus had been there, he would never have lost, or if Don King hadn't been there, or because Rooney was gone, or because Robin Givens cheated on him and ripped him off, or because his whole life was just ****, and the drugs and fame ruined everything.

Nobody has as many excuses as Tyson hardcore supporters.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Mike.
I think it's great how he's overcome these times, and he seems to be a great father ,
Family man, but every fighter has problems. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

    Anthony Joshua
    and especially "Canelo"

Didn't Crawford recently defeat an old man with Alzheimer's syndrome
    according to Canelo fans?
