Who do you think is the boxer with the biggest size and at the same time the most technical abilities that Primo Carnera can outbox and win the match by UD?

The guys who Carnera has the least chance of beating are in the 6'2-6'6 range. I think Carnera can outbox virtually everyone taller then him because of his jab and power. Loughran beat all the other giants he faced but didn't come close to beating Carnera and that says a lot. Something that seperates Carnera from the very few ATG point fighting giants like Valuev, Tyson Fury and guys like that is those guys do not hit very hard for their size. Carnera had real power that just was not how he chose to fight.

Its impossible to say how good or really how bad Carnera was. He was certainly a physical specimen for that era, that's why he was there.

Being largely a product of fixed fights makes him impossible to judge. He had that imposing size, they taught him to jab fairly well, I cant say how hard he hit with suspect matches.

He was clearly a strong guy that doesn't always transcend to punch power. He might of been an arm puncher.

So I'll with Donnie LaLonde. Use the jab and stay away from Donnie's right.

Theater of the grotesque, as I see it through the mind's eye.

Primo was so strong that I think he wins that taffy pull.

Judging by what I've read, the general consensus of boxing writers and the public was that Carnera was musclebound and not a hard hitter. His unfixed fights such as the Loughran bout tended to go the distance despite Primo's size advantage.

    Correct.

Ray Arcel talked about Primo having a chin of pure dresden? and a velvet punch. He did say he ended up with a good jab and had loads of heart and the like. He was also better on his feet than one would expect. He also said his heart was never in boxing, whether in the ring or the gym. He liked his booze and cigs, and I'm guessing food.

So not much of a punch, poor chin, good jab, decent footwork and heart. A lesser version of Valuev i guess. He might outbox Wilder, but he'd never take his punch. One would be looking for light hitting non threatening types......that weren't that good.

Carnera could probably do quite well against big fighters in mauling affairs, but he doesn't fare too well against anyone with a bit of technical ability.

A half-decent technician around 6 ft and 200lbs plus would likely beat him.

Excellent post, J.T. Feel free to elaborate on what you know and have read. The fictionalized movie based on Primo's boxing career portrays him as pitiful and tragic -- but this guy lived a helluva life! He enjoyed the night life and the women in Hollywood laid down for him faster than Jack Sharkey did.
