Sure, but jokes aside, look at the current US landscape. There is nothing there besides Canelo, and the occasional PBC card.
I think the main difference is that the US used to be the home of boxing, American fans still have the bizarre mindset that unless they fight over there they aren’t serious. Other parts of the world have taken over the sport on the whole, the Floyd era was super damaging for US boxing and Gervontgay Davis has only made it worse.
This is just an American-centric view though. Boxing has had another massive resurgence in Asia and is still big here in the UK. An entertaining boxer here can gain a lot of fame and money without even being close to world level. Can't say the same for yank land
Also how can we say 1960's or bulk of 20th century was the "golden age" when we know a huge chunk of talent was just kept out of pro boxing due to communism We know what a huge impact the ex Soviet bloc fighters have had on the sport as soon as they were allowed to turn pro. I know all the yank copes about their best heavyweights being in NFL etc. As if NFL suddenly started in the 90's & wasn't a thing in 60's, 70's, & 80's when they were still dominating HW boxing. The reality was that all this Soviet bloc talent just didn't have an outlet during the so called "golden age" that old timers recall with rose tinted glasses now Japanese boxing is going through a golden age right now & this isn't some flash in the pan with Inoue but due to changes in the grass roots ecosystem. The start of the high school tournament has had a huge impact & many of the current big names including Inoue first made their names in the high school tournament. There is plenty of talent in Japan that's coming up like the Tsutsumi brothers, Yuta Sakai etc. All of them a product of this high school tournament system started in 2008 iirc by the JBC
Yanks just get mad because American exceptionalism doesn't exist anymore except in their own national sports (which no one else cares about). Boxing has always had changing demographics for talent and the general money market. Way back in the day Boxing was predominantly Jewish and Irish American alongside talent from places like the Carribbean. That doesn't apply anymore because times change. Also the Japanese boxing system is great. Even if you have no am career at all you can still advance through events like the Rookie King tournament etc. Just amazingly well structured all round.
Dying a slow agonizing death. YouTuber fights will become more popular than the pros eventually. It’s a self inflicted death but I hate to see it. Slow motion suicide.
Look here, euro-bro, soccer sucks. I won't even dignify that snoozer of a sport by calling it football. No, "football" is the NFL. You might recognize it -- it's an upgraded version of your rugby. And basketball is popular all over. p.s. yeah baseball does suck. Even my vestigial American pride cannot find a way to make baseball interesting or exciting. It's 90% nut scratching and dip chewing, 10% something happening.
Talent, yes? But where are the fight cards? I have been watching lots of cards from the early 2010s recently, and nothing like it exists in the US anymore. Where are all of the SHO triple and quadruple headers? Where are the cards with multiple lower weight champions on it(like Japan in current times)? Where are the stable, active champions at higher weights? There is **** all going on in the US, unless the Saudis are involved. And then the occasional PBC PPV.
We COULD get a crazy good card going in the US. Benavidez vs Beterbiev (since god knows what Bivol is doing right now). Ennis vs Ortiz. Stevenson vs Lopez. Who wouldn't want to see those three? Ruiz vs Wilder on the undercard.
