    What about the fact that Duran had fought over 90 pro fights?

    The fact that he was only 5’7, with a tiny 66” reach?

    The fact that Barkley dwarfed him, and possessed huge physical advantages over him?

    The stylistic match up?

    Terence was amazing. But he didn’t have to give up what Duran did, and it was an easier stylistic match up for him.

    Are people forgetting Duran was a BANTAMWEIGHT in his earlier pro years?

    Barkley was WBA light-heavy champion.

    This is INSANE.

    Dunno how anyone can say Crawfords win is better.
    Canelo was better than Barkley prime for prime but that’s it.
    Canelo is shot now, Crawford is still the goods, Barkley was prime, Duran was old.
    Barkley was a champ in 3 divisions and beat some good fighters.

    Good point here ... Barkley went on to have some notable feats after the Duran loss that further flattered the win.

    Good point.
    Duran had also fought at that weight before. Terance it was new territory. Its one thing to walk around at a weight but how he would take the punches in a division 14lbs north and could he carry that extra weight in live competition without tiring.

    A few things to note.

    Canelo is a better opponent on paper but he's considered past his prime and hasn't had a good performance in years.

    Barkley was in his prime and was coming off a massive win vs an ATG in Hearns and also had beat some solid contenders like Olajide and Kinchen which were good performances.

    Not to mention Barkley had good success after losing to Duran like winning the Light Heavyweight title and beating Hearns again.

    Duran was also only 5'7 with a 66 inch reach fighting against a huge Middleweight who was 6'1 with a 74 inch reach.

    Crawford was actually taller than Canelo with a 4 inch reach advantage and size wise they're similar Crawford walked around comfortably at 180 pounds.

    So for me Duran's win is a better P4P achievement.

    Durans win is better. Canelo is greater than Barkley, but Barkley is naturally bigger, was coming off a huge win and Duran is smaller than Crawford. That being said Barkley is overrated h2h. Canelo would beat Barkley up

    To me, it is rather Canelo who is overrated. Should have lost twice to GGG and lost to Lara. When he stepped up in class, lost to smaller fighters in Floyd and Crawford. I have to rewatch the Trout fight, not sure about that one. He was perfectly managed throughout his career. A very good fighter yes, but not the great fighter he was being sold They needed a cash cow, somebody to attract the Mexican audience.

    Definitely Duran's win over Barkley. That fight was about 20 times better than Canelo vs Crawford. Crawford and Canelo, only landed an anemic 200 punches combined over 12 rounds. And, hardly any of the punches landed by either man were particularly significant. It was an impressive achievement for Crawford, but, hardly a fight that anyone would ever care to watch twice. Barkley-Duran was an epic battle, fight of the year. I could literally watch that fight every month and still enjoy it.

    This is where I am, too, Ted.

    Prime Canelo is a greater fighter than Barkley, but this is more than offset by:

    1. Barkley was prime, Canelo post prime;

    2. Crawford was closer to being at his best than Duran to his;

    3. The natural size discrepancy between Barkley and Duran was greater than between Canelo and Crawford.

    Canelo over Barkley easily ... but Crawford was a huge dude boiling down returning to his proper weight class whereas Duran was a small dude fighting out of his weight class. A matter of taste which is more impressive.

    Duran. Barkley went to war and gave every inch of himself in that fight. Canelo looked like he was in a 12 round sparring session. Not impressive at all

    Hard to say, quality-wise even 2025 Canelo would toy with Barkley, but Duran beat a prime Barkley as a 37 year old lightweight with 91 matches and Barkley quite literally looked twice as big as him.

    Canelo had far more mileage than Crawford and he barely looked any bigger while having a reach disadvantage.

    Aye, I definitely take issue with the misguided and disingenuous notion that the current stiff arsed, plodding, low workrate one punch at a time version of Alvarez is a class above the 86-89 incarnation of Barkley. Anyone thinking that who either isn't a troll or being deliberately dense is being misled by Canelos past status and performances and inflated reputation while measuring him against the post-Benn Barkley who had regressed massively into the weight drained straight ahead, rigid, face first, painfully slow brawler who was getting countered to death by Toney.
