Who was the greatest at 160?

Several fighters like Emile Griffith, Ray Robinson, and Ray Leonard are not in the poll because they had their best runs at welterweight, while Roberto Duran was at his best at lightweight, and Roy Jones and several others were at their peak at light heavyweight.

How is Robinson not an option here? Because he was better at welterweight? That makes ZERO sense.

Regardless, the Top 4 is pretty much a complete lock between Greb, Robinson, Monzon, and Hagler. Those are really the only 4 names needed in a poll like this.

Okay, I should have put him in the poll, but it's too late now.

I always think of him as a welterweight, he did have a great run at or near 147 - he seemed almost invincible for a time in the 1940s.

I was thinking about those first two fights with LaMotta where he was below the welterweight limit while LaMotta was slightly above the middleweight limit.

Perhaps, but he had very few fights at middleweight, many at welterweight and some at light heavyweight.

One of the first fights I ever watched was Tito vs Hopkins. So based on his activity Hopkins was the contemporary great in my generation of fan friendliness.

Consider: Harry Greb was a middleweight who fought and beat the best heavyweights of his time, neither Monson nor Hagler ever even fought light heavyweights.

Tito Trinidad was a much smaller fighter. Hopkins started at light heavyweight.

Hagler or Monzon. Leaning towards Hagler.

Roy Jones is H2H the best at this weight although he moved up to LHW. I am sure he beats all of them.

You judge greatness by how many times a fighter stepped up to Brit Level successfully and in particular how times they did so against Elite Brit Level opposition

I couldn't tell you off the top of my head which of the aforementioned, and FTR I'm going to include Sugar Robinson because he warrants inclusion, have successfully stepped up to Brit Level the most but whichever one has beaten more Brits and Elite Brit Level Brits is obviously the greatest. It's not rocket science

We know Marvin and GGG were able to step up to Brit Level a number of times and I believe the reason they felt confident enough to do so on British soil is because they both had/have Brit Level titanium chins and knew their Brit Level mandibles would spare them from being on the receiving end of the obligatory HL reel Brit Level KO loss. Same goes for Sugar Robinson

Why is Ali The Greatest? Because he not only bested a number of Brits but he came over to the UK to do so. He has one of the greatest chins of all time for a non-Brit too but look what happened when he stepped up to Brit Level vs a 22lb lighter Henry Cooper he was dropped like a sack of potatoes and saved from a certain KO loss by the bell. The huge punching Liston couldn't do that to Ali and he fought Ali in his very next fight. The even bigger punching Foreman, bigger than Liston not Henry, couldn't do that to Ali either

Why is Usyk the GOAT? Because he has literally singlehandedly defeated the entire tiny majestic isle of Great Britain with his dominance of Brit Level fighters

Why do you think Clenelo was ranked P4P #1 for so long? And look what fighting all those Brits took out of him too and he was too much of a wuss to ever dare step foot into a British ring

Hell, look at the esteem Crawford is held in for beating 3 Brits and 2 of them were shot

They had Spence ranked top 10 P4P for beating Brook in the UK for goodness sake. He only had to defeat one Brit Level opponent to warrant a lofty ranking and Brook wasn't even Elite Brit Level after GGG broke his face

Neither Crawford or Inoue were ever spoken about in P4P terms prior to successfully stepping up to Brit Level for the 2nd time

Fact is Sugar Robinson who is widely considered the GOAT DID lose to a Brit on British soil and The Greatest Ali WAS saved from a certain KO loss to a Brit on Brit soil by the bell

By the way, that Google AI is crap. I asked it how many Brits Sugar Robinson had fought and it said 1 and that 1 wasn't even the great Randy Turpin who actually beat Sugar Robinson's ass in the UK because Sugar Robinson was that rare breed of American fighter who was a road warrior but then Robinson beat a jetlagged Turpin in the rematch over in the US

For me, it's Monzon. I personally rate Greb more as an overall P4P fighter than a strict middleweight.

Middle is such an amazing division though. So many great fighters to choose and debate from.
