Hi Buddy. Lewis was partying before the 1st fight, otherwise he wouldnt have lost, he wiped him out in the 2nd, no need for a third, no one would buy it. stay safe buddy, chat soon. Mike.
Lewis only gave rematches when he didn't win. He should have given rematches to mercer an Vitali an you can be sure that had Lewis won the 1st match against Rahman an Rahman won the 2nd , Lewis would have insisted on a 3rd fight He wasn't interested in rematches or trilogies if he had the last word an won the last fight
Same reason Louis and Schmeling didn't have one. Two fights settled who was the better man. In the interview after the fight, Rahmen called out Johnny Ruiz, and although that fight took awhile to come off, it was a clear indicator he didn't want no more the Pugilist Specialist.
Lewis won the title back next fight, why would he rematch Mercer instead of fighting for the world title? Mercer hadn't won any of his last three fights including Lewis. It's not like it was a robbery. We did a thread here and i don't think one card favored Mercer. Storm in a tea cup. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...-lewis-v-mercer-bonus-mercer-v-cooper.622632/
Rahman was totally punked in the rematch. Not even his mother wanted to see him stretched out like that again.
Because of Mike Tyson. There was huge money lurking for a Tyson fight, in fact Rahman tried to sidestep the first rematch for a Tyson fight, but the rematch with Lewis was court-ordered. It would be 2004 before Rahman would win another fight, he just lost lost lost. He wasn't going to get between Lewis and Tyson and he had to win to be the man post-Tyson, and Lewis retired and that was that.
Because he received much more money for an easy fight with Mike Tyson, while Rahman lost every important fight. Against Holyfield, Ruiz, Maskaev. Rahman couldn't even win against fat Toney. Nobody was interested in a third fight. People wanted a second fight with Vitali, but they didn't want a third fight with Hashim.
